West Lafayette, Ind. (October 14, 2025) – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis doubles team of Cortland Grove and Jakub Jupa went on a historic and remarkable run through the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championships, eventually earning runner-up status on Tuesday morning in West Lafayette, Indiana.
 
With an automatic berth to the NCAA Doubles Championship on the line, Grove and Jupa battled in a tight championship tilt against Aleksa Krivokapic and Maj Premzl of Big Ten-member Purdue, the host for this week's regional, before eventually falling by a 6-4, 6-4 tally.
 
Grove and Jupa advanced through the event with wins over representatives from Butler (R64), Vanderbilt (R32), Dayton (R16), Lipscomb (Quarterfinals) and Louisville (Semifinals) before meeting Purdue's tandem in the finals. Three of the five victories were decided by tiebreak fashion, truly showing an impressive week-long fight from the duo.
 
"I could not be prouder of Jakub [Jupa] and Cortland [Grove] this week as they progressed through a historical run at the regionals," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher.
 
"These kids competed so well and played so smart throughout. They will have more chances this fall to earn a spot in the NCAA individuals."
 
The duo became just the second in program history to finish runner-up in the main draw doubles format of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional event with the last occurring in 2021 (Peyton Gatti/Tomas Rodriguez). Regardless of the final second-place result, Grove and Jupa have created national attention and will look to build on the momentum moving forward.  
 
Overall, Chattanooga collected six victories in main draw action between doubles and singles with Jupa accounting for the lone main draw singles win in the Round of 64, before bowing out in the Round of 32. Julian Franzmann earned a spot in main draw singles play after a pair of qualifying victories while Martin Delnido (2) and TJ Ryerson (1) combined for three singles wins between qualifier and consolation play.
