Kelley Claims 4th SoCon Weekly Honor

Jude Kelley

Jude Kelley’s performance in the Chattanooga Mocs weekend win over ETSU earned him SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

First Look
Chattanooga Mocs senior kicker Jude Kelley had quite the night in the dramatic come-from-behind 42-38 win over ETSU. The Acworth, Ga., native scored 12 points in the contest including a highlight for the ages for any kicker.

Breakdown
  • Kelley went 6-6 on PATs and scored a touchdown on a fake field goal in the third quarter.
  • His 8-yard scamper around the right end of the ETSU defense was the first fake field goal attempt (and TD) since 2013 when Jacob Huesman scored from seven yards out in the win at Appalachian State.
  • It's believed to be the first kicker TD in school history.
  • The score made it a 21-10 Mocs lead with apparent control of the game. The Bucs scored four TDs in the span of 12+ minutes to take up a 17-point advantage, 38-21 with 10:11 to go. The Mocs roared back with three scores of their own while the defense shut down the Bucs including on 4th-and-1 setting up the game-winning drive.
  • Kelley also won this award on Sept. 18, 2023 after a 12-point performance in the win over The Citadel. He earned it twice last season in back-to-back weeks after wins at Furman and over VMI.
  • QB Camden Orth was the offensive nominee. His credentials of 343 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero turnovers and a career-high 374 yards total offense fell short. The award who given to Samford's Brady Stober was threw for 285 yards and three TDs and an interception. He averaged 6.6 yards per attempt and 8.4 yards per completion compared to Orth's 10.1 yards per attempt and 17.2 per completion.

Coaches Corner
"We've been practicing it for weeks. Wanted to use it earlier in the season, but the timing didn't work out. Everyone executed it like they were supposed to, and it was a matter of possibly having to be one guy out of the middle. Which is what happened because true freshman TJ Briggs did his job and walled off the edge which was the biggest part of the play." – Coach Rusty Wright

Next Up
The Mocs and Samford meet Saturday at 3:30 p.m., Eastern time, in Birmingham. The Mocs return home for the final two regular season home games of the season with Western Carolina (Nov. 1) and Furman (Nov. 8) coming to visit.
