Chattanooga Mocs sophomore golfer Ward Harris is the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week for his performance at the Fallen Oak Collegiate. Harris finished 12th against a world-class field setting or tying personal bests each day of the event.
 
Breakdown

• Set new 18-hole hole low with his opening 68 (-4).
• Also shot a career-best 140 (-4) over 36 holes.
• Matched his top tournament total of 5-under 211.
• Most impressively, Harris beat NINE golfers ranked in the top 75 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The list (strokes ahead): #9 Michael La Sasso (2), #17 Cameron Tankersley (1), #38 Frankie Harris (11), #41 Ryan Voois (4), #45 Cohen Trolio (10), #56 Garrett Endicott (1), #58 Tom Fischer (1), #62 John Daly II (4) & #71 Jay Mendell (6).
• His average margin of victory over those nine was 4.7 shots.
• Harris led the squad with 14 birdies as the counting cards amassed 42 over the three days.
• There were six top 20 teams and 13 of the 14 ranked among the top 100 in the country including the Mocs at the event.

"I'm always proud of our guys for the accolades they earn, but this one is extra special. After two back surgeries last year, Ward had to put in a lot of work not only getting his body healthy, but he also had to reteach it how to properly move in the golf swing. It's been a marathon, and he's handled it with incredible perseverance and an optimistic attitude. This week his effort started to come to fruition, and I couldn't be happier for him to see his grit start to pay off." – Coach Blaine Woodruff
 
Next Up
The Mocs completed the fall portion of the schedule. They return to the tee in February for the Battle at Briar's Creek. The 2-day, 54-hole event is Feb. 2-3 at Briar's Creek Golf Club on Johns Island in Charleston, S.C.
