                 FAIRBURN, Ga. --- The Chattanooga men's cross country team, led by 
Jack Martin, placed second behind host Georgia Tech Friday morning at the Bouckaert Farms course in Fairburn, Ga., while 
Maddie Wheatcroft led the women to a third place finish.
 
"Very solid day for the Mocs today!" head coach 
Steve Picucci said. "It was great to see some big breakthroughs on both sides."
Martin placed sixth overall with a personal best time of 24:38.9 and 
Derek Mitchell, also with a PR, finished eighth with a time of 24:51.6. The men scored 68 points, finishing second to the Yellow Jackets (20) and ahead of Southern Conference foe Mercer who placed third with 89 points. Wofford finished eighth in a field of 11 teams.
 
Ian Etheridge placed 13
th overall for the men with a personal best time of 25:10.1 followed by 
Riley Hanson [25:32.0]. 
Cash Coggin topped his previous best time at 26:18.1 and freshman 
Reid Gulstrom posted a PR at 28:09.9.
 
In the women's race, 
Maddie Wheatcroft covered the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21:03.69 with 
Leah Boyd finishing next for the Mocs at 21:50.12. 
Andrea Ellis was the third UTC finisher in the Top 20 placing 19
th at 22:06.31.
 
Emma Thweatt [23:06.87], 
Michaela Dabney [23:23.16] and 
Maya McCloskey [24:41.26] all posted personal best times in the race. Live Gould [22:33.22], 
Bella King [23:03.02] and 
Lauren Bayes [25:26.44] recorded their first times at the distance.
 
"Still some areas to work on as we get ready for our last regular season weekend in two weeks," Picucci said.
 
Coming up for UTC is the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on October 17 as well as the NCAA Pre-National Invite on October 18 in Columbia, Mo.
