Men’s Basketball Opens SoCon Play at UNCG on New Year’s Day

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team kicks off Southern Conference regular season play on New Year’s Day against the Spartans.

CHATTANOOGA (December 30, 2025) --- The defending Southern Conference regular season champion Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team will open a new league campaign on New Year's Day with a road contest at UNC Greensboro inside Bodford Arena in Greensboro, N.C. Thursday's tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. (ET) on ESPN+.
 
Chattanooga (6-7) concluded its non-conference slate with a 73-66 victory at Alabama A&M last Sunday (December 21) with the help of season-high scoring efforts from both Jordan Frison (27) and Jikari Johnson (17). UNCG (4-9) enters the league opener on Thursday having won three of its last four games after dropping five-straight to open the season.
 
The Mocs edged the Spartans by two games last season in the race towards a SoCon regular season crown. UTC clinched its 13th SoCon regular season title last year with a late season 75-63 victory at UNCG on February 27, 2025, inside First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro.
 
Chattanooga will quickly head to Lexington, Va., following Thursday's contest for a Saturday afternoon matchup at VMI. Full game details, notes, storylines and more can be found below.

• Chattanooga (6-7) went into the holiday break following a quality 73-66 victory at Alabama A&M in the non-conference finale last Sunday in Huntsville... Jordan Frison (27) and Jikari Johnson (17) each notched season-high scoring totals to help lead the Mocs winning effort.

Jordan Frison scored a season-high 27 points in Sunday's win at Alabama A&M... fourth-straight with 20+ (20, 20, 20, 27)... first Moc to score 20+ in four-straight since Honor Huff (31, 26, 29, 21, 20) did it in five-straight from 2/14/24 - 2/28/24... first Moc since Jake Stephens (27, 27, 26, 31) from 11/26/22 - 12/6/22 to do it against non-conference opponents.
