Softball Falls on Opening Day of Chattanooga Challenge

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga softball team recorded 13 hits on the opening day of the Chattanooga Challenge at Frost Stadium but fell to North Alabama and Lindenwood Friday.
 
Acelynn Sellers, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, went 3-for-7 Friday with three doubles and recorded two RBI. Abi Bunt, getting her first start at designated player, went 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
 
Alyssa Lavdis got the start against Lindenwood and struck out five in 4.2 innings of work. The Mocs staff combined for 11 strikeouts on the day.
 
CHATTANOOGA 2, NORTH ALABAMA 8
 
Acelynn Sellers drove in a pair of runs on two doubles against North Alabama but it wasn't enough as the Lions drove in four runs in the fourth to put the game beyond the Mocs.
 
UNA scored twice in the third inning but Sellers double, driving in Cam Cernuto, cut the lead in half at 2-1. Four runs in the fourth drove the lead up to 6-1 and Sellers responded with another double in the fifth, plating Cernuto, for the Mocs second run of the game.
 
The Lions added two more runs in the sixth on a triple to right center and a single up the middle.
 
Peja Goold got the loss and drops to 1-2 overall.
 
 
CHATTANOOGA 1, LINDENWOOD 5
 
In the nightcap, the Mocs fell 5-1 to Lindenwood despite outhitting the Lions 9-6. Lead off batter Kailey Snell was 3-for-4 that included a double. Abi Bunt, making her first start for UTC as the designated player, went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
 
The Lions got the scoring started with four runs in the fifth on a doble and a three-run homer over the left field fence.
 
Bunt sent a long single to center field scoring Olivia Lipari to make it 4-1. Lindenwood added one more run on a single up the middle in the seventh.
 
Alyssa Lavdis moves to 0-2 on the year and struck out five in 4.2 innings in the circle.
