Â
GAME ADDED TO SUNDAY FROST CLASSIC SCHEDULE
The Mocs will host IU Indy Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. of the Frost Classic. In the second game, Chattanooga will take on SEMO slated for a 12:30 p.m. start.
Â
CHATTANOOGA 5, LAMAR 4
Lamar got on the board first with a two-run home run in the top of the first, but it would take just a half inning for the Mocs to answer.
Â
The Mocs put runners on first and second on back-to-back walks setting up
Acelynn Sellers for a three-run shot over the fence in left center to put Chattanooga on top 3-2 after just one inning.
Â
The Cardinals tied it up in the third on a sac fly to center field and then took the lead in the fourth on a single to center, driving in the runner on third.
Â
The Mocs responded in the bottom of the fourth with two runs to take the lead and held off Lamar for the win.
Â
Sellers led off the inning with a double to right center and with two outs, advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Abi Bunt had a pinch hit double to the fence in the right center, driving in Sellers for the tying run. Izzy Cooley returned to the game to run for Bunt and scored from second on a single off the bat of pinch hitting
Baileigh Pitts to put the Mocs in front for the final time.
Â
Peja Goold went the distance with nine strikeouts. She improves to 2-3 on the year. Selles was 2-for-3 with a double and home run and three RBI. Bunt and Pitts went 1-for-1 as pinch hitters and each drove in a run for the Mocs.
Â
CHATTANOOGA 4, ILLINOIS STATE 2
Chattanooga never trailed in its win over the Redbirds Saturday, scoring in each of the first three innings.
Taylor Long improved to 2-0 and struck out eight in 4.1 innings.
Alyssa Lavdis came on in the fifth and picked up the Mocs first save of the year.
Â
The Mocs put the first two batters on with back-to-back singles, but a line out double play at first left
Kailey Snell alone on the bags at second for Sellers. Her single to center was far enough to score Snell for the first run of the game.
Â
Snell added a second run for Chattanooga in the second on a single up the middle with two outs and two on, scoring
Jayce Purdy from third to make it a 2-0 game.
Â
In the third, UTC added two more runs on a blast from Sellers.
Olivia Lipari walked on four straight pitches to lead off the inning. With a 2-2 count, Sellers homered over the fence in left to put the Mocs up 4-0.
Â
Illinois State added two runs in the fifth on a lead-off home run and a wild pitch.
Â
Chattanooga improves to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in the Frost Classic. All games on Friday were canceled and another game was added Sunday morning to give each team four games for the weekend.
Â
