Men’s Basketball Concludes Regular Season at VMI on Saturday

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team looks to extend its overall and SoCon road win streaks following its recent clinch of the league regular season title last time out.

CHATTANOOGA (February 28, 2025) --- Fresh off clinching the outright title and No. 1 seed in the upcoming Southern Conference tournament, the Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team concludes its regular season slate at VMI on Saturday afternoon inside Cameron Hall in Lexington, Va.
 
After defeating UNCG on Thursday, Chattanooga (22-8, 14-3 SoCon) clinched its 13th SoCon regular season title (21st including division titles) and extended its win streak to 10 games, the program's longest since 11 during the famous 1996-97 Sweet 16 campaign. UTC went undefeated (8-0) in the month of February for the first time since 1982-83 (9-0), a season in which the Mocs advanced to the NCAA Tournament and finished No. 15 in the final top 25.
 
The Mocs also secured the all-important No. 1 seed in next week's SoCon Tournament in Asheville, N.C., and will play on Saturday, March 8 at Noon (vs. TBD) inside the Harrah's Cherokee Center. Official seeding and bracket placements will be finalized upon the completion of the league's final Saturday slate.

STORY LINES
CHATTANOOGA CAPTURES SOCON REGULAR SEASON CROWN
Chattanooga extended its win streak to 10 games and captured its 13th Southern Conference regular season title after defeating UNCG 75-63... 21st SoCon title when counting eight division crowns (1995-13).
Chattanooga also extended its SoCon road winning streak to seven games which marks a new program record.
Chattanooga solidifies the No. 1 seed in next week's SoCon Tournament and will play at Noon on Saturday, March 8 vs. TBD.
 
VMI RECENT RESULTS
VMI (13-17, 7-10 SoCon) is looking to snap a three-game skid after most recently falling at home to Samford 95-83 on Thursday night... Keydets dropped a narrow 75-71 decision at Furman last Saturday.
VMI has played to a 7-6 record at home this year... most home wins in a single season since winning nine during the 2021-22 season which was Dan Earl's last season in Lexington.
VMI's seven SoCon wins this season is the most since nine in 2021-22.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Chattanooga & VMI will meet for the 70th time... UTC leads the all-time series 53-16... UTC is 47-14 in SoCon regular season games.
UTC won the first meeting this season, 91-66, inside McKenzie Arena... the Mocs made a school record 19 3FGM at 67.9% (19-28) in the win.
 
CHATTANOOGA STAYS WINNING
Chattanooga reeled off its 22nd victory of the season after Thursday's win at UNCG... back-to-back 21+ win seasons after finishing 21-12 in 2023-24... fourth 20+ win campaign in last six seasons.
Chattanooga captured its 14th SoCon win of the season... ties the 2021-22 total (14) for most since 15 wins during the 2015-16 season... both 2021-22 & 2015-16 resulted in NCAA Tournament appearances.
Chattanooga has combined for 26 SoCon wins over the past two seasons... most in consecutive seasons since 27 in 2013-14 & 2014-15 during Will Wade's two years as the UTC bench boss.
 
ROAD WARRIORS (SOCON EDITION)
∙ The Mocs have won seven-straight road games in SoCon play... started at Citadel on 1/4... seven marks single season program record.
∙ First time with SoCon road winning streaks of six or more in back-to-back seasons since 1991-92 and 1992-93 campaigns.
UTC tied a program record with six-straight in 2023-24... the Mocs are a combined 13-4 in road SoCon games since the start of 2023-24.
 
ROAD WARRIORS (NATIONAL EDITION)
Chattanooga has played to a 44-29 (.603) record in true road games since 2020... the 44 wins are the most in NCAA DI during that span... two clear of Belmont (42) and three of UC Irvine (41) (through 2/27).
UTC is 9-5 in road games this season... the nine wins is tied for 4th most across all of NCAA DI this year (through 2/23).
 
DAN EARL(Y) SUCCESS AMONG THE BEST
Dan Earl earned win No. 61 at UTC in his third season... just the third UTC head coach to reach 60+ wins in first three seasons (DI era).
Earl is the first UTC head coach since Mack McCarthy (1985-88) to reach 60 wins in first three seasons... McCarthy's 62 total wins are the most for a UTC head coach during the three-season span.
