Mocs Run Rule Georgia State to Run Win Streak to 12

DECATUR, Ga. --- It took six innings for the Chattanooga softball team to get its 12th straight win, beating Georgia State 9-1 on an overcast, windy afternoon at Bob Heck Field.

The Mocs put five runs on the board in the second and four more in the sixth to improve to 14-7 overall. Georgia State drops to 6-15 on the year.

Raven Jones got the scoring started in the second with her first collegiate home run. She led off the inning with a solo shot over the fence in left center. Lexi Cooley and Zoe Wright followed with back-to-back walks and advanced into scoring position on a sac bunt from Kailey Snell. Camryn Cernuto singled to center and took second on the throw home, scoring Cooley to make it 2-0.

Chattanooga's third run came on a sac fly to fight field by Olivia Lipari, sending Wright across the plate. Acelynn Sellers drew the Mocs third base on balls of the inning and scored along with Cernuto on a Presley Williamson double to the fence in left center in the next at bat giving UTC a 5-0 lead.

The Panthers scored their lone run of the game in the fourth. GSU led off the inning with a single and followed with a double to score the lead off runner. Chattanooga got the next three batters out to end the inning.

In the sixth, the Mocs batted around adding four more runs, stretching the lead to 9-1.

With one out, Snell singled and ended up at second. Cernuto drilled a shot to deep left, over the outfielder's head and wheeled around the bags for a triple, sending Snell home.

Lipari doubled to score Cernuto and Sellers doubled to left field, plating Lipari to make it 8-1. Jayce Purdy singled up the middle and took second on the throw home. It wasn't in time for Abby Orr, pinch running for Sellers, to score what would eventually be the game winning run.

The Mocs retired the final three batters out in order to secure the run rule victory.
