Softball Runs Win Streak to 14 Games with 22 Runs Friday

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. --- The Chattanooga softball team made quick work of the day Friday sweeping through its first two games of the Make it Happen Games at Madeira Beach, Fla. UTC beat Siena 8-1 in the opening game and followed that up with a 14-1 victory against Niagara to improve to 16-7 overall and run its win streak to 14 games.
 
The Mocs hit .386 with 17 hits in 44 at bats with two home runs, five doubles, 21 RBI and 15 bases on balls. In the circle, UTC allowed two earned runs on two hits with 18 strikeouts, eight walks and threw two complete games.
 
Presley Williamson went 3-for-4 with two home runs, seven RBI, scored three runs and had a 2.250 slugging percentage. Baileigh Pitts was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in and three walks. Raven Jones, Lexi Cooley and Camryn Cernuto each drove in two runs.
 
 
CHATTANOOGA 8, SIENA 1
Peja Goold improved to 8-3 on the year with a one-hitter against the Saints. She struck out eight and allowed one run.
 
Siena got the scoring started in the first, drawing a bases loaded walk to go up 1-0. It would be the lone score of the game for the Saints. Goold sat down the next nine batters in order on five strikeouts, three in the third, two ground outs and two fly outs. The Saints put a runner on second with a double in the fifth, but left her stranded.
 
With two outs in the bottom of the first, Olivia Lipari singled and scored on a double to center by Baileigh Pitts to tie the game 1-1.
 
The Mocs added four more runs in the third to go up 5-1 on four hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. Camryn Cernuto led off the inning with a single through the left side and Lipari was hit by the first pitch she saw to put two runners on. Pitts walked to load the bases and Presley Williamson singled, driving in two runs to put UTC up 3-1.
 
After a pitching change, Jayce Purdy hit a sac fly to right, scoring Pitts. Raven Jones doubled in Williamson to make it a 5-3 game.
 
Chattanooga added three more runs in the fourth. With one out, Pitts hit an infield single and Abi Pikas entered to run the bases. She didn't have to work too hard. Williamson hit a hard home run over the left field fence for two more runs.
 
The hits kept coming. Purdy singled to right center and Siena made several defensive changes. Jones drew a walk to put two runners on. Zoe Wright reached on a fielding error, loading the bases. Kailey Snell drew a walk to plate the Mocs eighth run of the game.
 
 
CHATTANOOGA 14, NIAGARA 1
Taylor Long got the start in the second game Friday. She struck out 10, allowing just one hit and improved to 5-0 on the year.
 
The Mocs wasted no time getting runs on the board in the top of the first as the visiting team. Snell opened with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Camryn Cernuto. However, a fielder's choice got Olivia Lipari on board, but took out lead runner Snell.
Baileigh Pitts drew a walk, putting two runners on for Presley Williamson who drilled her second home run of the day over the fence in left to make it a 3-0 game.
 
Jayce Purdy reached first on a throwing error and advanced to second. Raven Jones walked putting two runners on for Lexi Cooley who drove in Purdy on a double to center field.
 
The Purple Eagles scored in the bottom of the second on a bases loaded walk to make it 4-1.
 
Chattanooga uncorked six more runs in the third on two hits, five walks and an error. Pitts and Williamson led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Abi Pikas entered to run for Pitts and the two runners advanced on a wild pitch. Izzy Carlyle entered to run for Williamson.
 
Purdy walked to load the bases followed by Raven Jones walk to plate Pikas for the first run of the third for UTC. Cooley hit a sac fly to right to score Carlyle and advance the runners. A passed ball allowed Purdy to score and put Jones on third.
 
Kailey Snell drew the fifth walk of the inning to put runners on the corners. Alyssa Orlando, pinch hitting for Cernuto, reached on an error advancing Snell to second and scoring Jones from third to make it 8-1.
 
Cernuto reenterd the game. Lipari singled through the left side, plating Snell and Pitts single through the left side scored Cernuto to give Chattanooga a 10-1 lead through three innings.
 
In the fifth, the Mocs added four more runs and got the last three outs on strikeouts.
 
Wright led off the fifth with a single up the middle. Abby Orr, pinch hitting for Snell, singled through the left side and Wright made it to third on a fielding error by the short stop. Cernuto reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, allowing her to take second, scoring Wright and Orr to go up 12-1.
 
Mia Leone, pinch hitting for Lipari, singled to left field, scoring Cernuto. She took second on a wild pitch and made it to third on a ground out by Pitts.
 
Shayna Glass, pinch hitting for Williamson, doubled to center field, scoring Leone for the 14th run.
 
Chattanooga ran its win streak to 14 games and will face Siena again at 11:00 a.m. while taking on Central Michigan at 1:30 p.m. Follow all the action online at GoMocs.com. The games will have live stats and be video streamed through Athletes Go Live for a fee.
