Dan Earl, Head Coach
Opening Statement:
"First of all, credit to Furman and Coach Richey and what they did today and over the last two days (in this tournament). They're a (good) team, and they know their roles, and they play the right way, so hats off to them.
"I think we are also (play as) a team. Uh, I'm proud of our guys. I thought we fought throughout. This was not a lack of being competitive or fighting. We just picked a bad day to not have our best game. Missed some 2-point shots, had some uncharacteristic turnovers and did not have as many assists as we usually have. But our guys should hold their heads high."
Can you begin to reflect on what you were able to accomplish this year:
"It's hard, you know, but that's sport for you, right? The highs and lows. Last night, we felt like we did enough to win and played well. You have injuries like
Frank Champion and you feel for him because you know as much as anybody, it hurts him not be out there giving it his all. Again, those are the highs and lows, and this is obviously the low because we wanted to get the NCAA tournament. We were the number one seed. We played really well throughout the season, and then this is a tough spot."
Trey Bonham, Sr.-G
On his career alongside Honor Huff
"He's my brother. It's hard now. We probably have more basketball this season, but our ultimate goal is go to the NCAA Tournament, and we fell short. But I wouldn't trade the experience and the memories I had with him for anything. He's gonna be my brother to the day I die."
Honor Huff, Jr.-G
On playing his career with Trey Bonham.
"I can't even be mad at the game. I look around in the locker room and all of my teammates, it also kind of pisses me off. Then I look to my right, and that's my guy. I mean, I love him to death, to not get it done for him. That hurts me more than anything, honestly."
Bash Wieland, Gr.-F
Reflection on his year in Chattanooga and what this lone season has meant.
"It's been such a blessing. And just the three guys to the left of me (Coach Earl, Bonham & Huff), we just didn't get it done. It hurts a lot. On the bright side, we have more basketball to play, so I'm just going to try to soak it in and enjoy every single second of that. Coach Earl has been a fantastic coach. And like Honor said, just the 13, 14, 15 guys that I get to play with... It's been amazing."
On the closeness of the group despite the short time period of being together.
"I can't speak to other programs, but it's just something that's just hard to come by. All the same dudes that are working towards a common goal that enjoy being with each other outside of basketball as well. That's something that that I'll cherish forever."
