HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- Senior
Maddie Wheatcroft led the Chattanooga women's cross country team to a 21
st place finish out of 52 teams at the Southern Showcase hosted by Jacksonville State at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala.
Jack Martin led the men to a 29
th place finish in a packed field.

Wheatcroft placed 29
th overall Friday morning in the women's 5-kilometer race. She covered the course in a time of 17:20.89, just shy of her personal record by seconds.
Audrey Wade and
Taylor Crawford set personal bests and four freshmen ran in their first collegiate 5K race.

Leah Boyd was the second women's runner across the line with a time of 18:10.82 followed by freshman
Liv Gould with a time of 18:24.76.
Andrea Ellis crossed with a time of 18:28.28 with Lexi Foley (18:50.85) next across for Chattanooga and freshman
Bella King sixth for UTC at 18:52.01.

Louisville claimed the women's title with 64 points followed by Mississippi State (90), Kentucky (170), Georgia Tech (185) and Kennesaw State with 188 points in fifth. Caren Kiplagat won the women's race with a time of 16:18.76.

Martin placed 97
th overall with a time of 27:05.36 in a talented field of teams from across the south region. Four on the men's side posted PRs with freshman
Isaac Atwood in his first collegiate race at the distance.

Derek Mitchell was the second Chattanooga runner across with a PR time of 25:16.32. He was followed by
Ian Etheridge (25:16.97) with a PR as well as
Andrew Moore (25:55.16) with his own. Also posting a personal record was
Cash Coggin at 26:27.79.

Alabama claimed the men's crown with 38 points followed by Kentucky (131), Lipscomb (138), Auburn (148) and Louisville with 181 points. Dismus Lokira from Alabama finished first in the men's race with a time of 23:11.08.
