CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga's
Maddie Wheatcroft and
Stella Henry were named the Southern Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week the league office announced Wednesday.

Chattanooga kicked off the New Year at the UAB Blazer Classic where Wheatcroft broke a 28-year old Mocs record in the 1000 meter with a time of 2:57.00. She outdid the previous best time set in 1998 by Jennifer Eckard-Croft by more than three seconds. Wheatcroft ran in the opening heat and was sixth overall.

Henry, with a long jump of 5.82 meters, topped the 19-foot mark for the first time in her career. She now sits third in the SoCon standings in the event.

Chattanooga returns to Birmingham this weekend for the Samford Invite Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
