CHATTANOOGA (February 6, 2026) – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Gardner-Webb on Friday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center in the team's season opener.
 
With the loss, Chattanooga starts the season 0-1 overall while Gardner-Webb improves to 2-1 following its third match of the season.
 
Match Recap
Gardner-Webb secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Kaua Cressoni and Boyd Schreiber defeated Cortland Grove and Jakub Jupa 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Alexandre Bergeron and Johan Van Wijk clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Julian Franzmann and Kristof Kincses at No. 2. Chattanooga's Jaxon Lamb and Carter Ramthun posted a 6-3 victory in No. 3 spot.
 
In singles, UTC's Franzmann opened with a straight-set win at No. 2, defeating Schreiber 6-2, 6-3. Gardner-Webb's Van Wijk responded with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lamb at No. 5 before Noah Zieger added another point for Gardner-Webb with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 triumph over Grove in the No. 4 hole.
 
Cressoni extended Gardner-Webb's lead, defeating Martin Delnido 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 3 pairing. UTC's Kincses kept the match close with a hard-fought 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 win over Adam Patry at No. 6, however, Gardner-Webb's Bergeron sealed the victory for the visitors, overcoming Jupa 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at the top spot.
