Men’s Tennis Posts 6-1 Win at Wofford in SoCon Play on Saturday

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team sits at 2-0 in the league standings for the first time since 2023 after a tough road win over the Terriers.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 21, 2026) – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team put together a gritty effort from top to bottom during an eventual 6-1 victory over Wofford in Southern Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
 
"Just really proud of the guys. We faced some adversity today and we really showed toughness," head coach Chuck Merzbacher said after the match.
 
"It was a great team win. Everyone contributed in one way or another."

  • Chattanooga improves to 7-8 overall and 2-0 in SoCon action after the win… Wofford falls to 6-8 overall and 1-3 inside league action… eighth-straight win for UTC over Wofford in the series history.
  • First 2-0 start for UTC in SoCon play since 2023 (regular season champions)… fourth 2-0 start to SoCon action under head coach Chuck Merzbacher.

In doubles, Martin Delnido and Carter Ramthun initiated the success with a 6-3 win over Daniel Clivio and Ian Rasheed at No. 3 before Wofford's Parker Mariencheck and Hugo Rask responded with a 6-4 win at No. 2. The clinching point came from UTC's Cortland Grove and Jakub Jupa, who delivered a 7-6 (7-1) tiebreak decision over Jack Deveney and Valdemar Dubin at No. 1.
 
In singles, Wofford evened the match at 1-1 following an early retirement on court No. 6. Chattanooga responded swiftly as Jupa captured a straight-set victory, 6-0, 6-3, over Mariencheck at No. 1 before Delnido extended the lead with a 7-6(7-4), 6-3 win at No. 3 over Clivio.
 
Julian Franzmann added the match-clinching point for the Mocs at No. 2, outlasting Deveney 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Grove tacked on another UTC point with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Dubin at No. 4 before Kristof Kincses rounded out the singles results with a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory against Rask at No. 5.
