Women's Basketball Hires New Graduate Assistant

Former SoCon player, Grace Pack, has joined the UTC staff

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Women's Basketball Head Coach Deandra Schirmer has announced the hiring of Grace Pack as the Mocs' new Graduate Assistant Coach. She comes to the Scenic City after a four-year playing career at Western Carolina and Gardner Webb.

"We are super excited to add Grace to our staff. We feel like her skill set paired with her knowledge of the SoCon will elevate our staff and help us tremendously as we work towards another conference title," Schirmer said. "Grace has experience as a successful student-athlete, as well as a very welcoming demeanor that will allow her to be a great mentor for our players."

Pack, a native of Richmond, Virginia, spent the last two seasons playing in the SoCon at Western Carolina, where she was a key post player for the Catamounts. In the 2025-26 season she started 20 games, averaging 8.1 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game, which was second on the team. In SoCon play, she had two dominant performances, scoring 21 points against both Mercer and Wofford.

During the 2024-25 season, which was her first in Cullowhee, Pack averaged 5.6 points per game and three rebounds per game. In total she played 46 games for the Purple and Gold across two seasons.

Pack started her collegiate career playing at Gardner Webb. During her sophomore campaign, she started 21 games for the Bulldogs, while averaging 6.3 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game. As a freshman, Pack was part of the Gardner Webb team that went 29-5 and won the Big South Regular Season and Tournament Championships, earning the right to compete in the NCAA Tournament.

Pack earned her degree in May at Western Carolina in Sport Management, where she was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Athletics Inclusive Excellence Committee (AIE), and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

Professionally, Pack had several experiences during her time as a student-athlete, including serving as a Football Operations and Recruiting Assistant at Western Carolina for two years and a Recruiting Assistant at Gardner Webb for one year as well. In these roles she helped plan and execute visits for recruits throughout the calendar year. At Gardner Webb she also worked as a Broadcasting Intern, helping with the production of Big South sporting events.

Pack joins Alexis Uffmann, Nicole Heyn, Mallory Odell, and Sydney Johnson on Schirmer's staff. Uffmann, Heyn, and Odell are going into their third year with the program while Johnson starts her second and first as a full-time Assistant after being promoted from Graduate Assistant this spring.
