Megan Betsa

Megan Betsa was named assistant coach for the UTC softball program on August 20, 2018.

Betsa, a McDonough, Ga. native, spent the previous season at the University of New Mexico in the same role, completing her first season of collegiate coaching. With four years of NCAA playing experience and a year of professional play under her belt, Reed is excited for what Betsa brings to the program.

“We wanted to bring in someone to try and take our pitchers places they’ve never been. We’re excited about bringing her in with her experience and level she has played, I feel like that’s going to give our pitchers a big boost going into the season,” said Reed.

A three-time NFCA Second Team All-American and two-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Year selection, Betsa was selected seventh overall in the 2017 National Pro Fastpitch draft by the Akron Racers, later earning Rookie of the Week honors after tossing a complete game with nine strikeouts in her pro debut.

During her time at Michigan (2014-17), Betsa started 130 games in the circle and appeared in 161 games over her four-year career. She finished a combined 102-24 with a 1.76 ERA, tossing 86 complete games and 37 shutouts while striking out an incredible 1,201 hitters in only 781.2 innings.

In addition to those numbers, Betsa ranks in the top five among Michigan’s career leaders in nearly every pitching category, including second in no-hitters (6), third in wins (102) and strikeouts (1,201) and fourth in shutouts (37). The Wolverines captured the 2015 Big Ten title and advanced to the Women’s College World Series, finishing as runner-ups with a 60-8 overall record.
