2002-03 Athletic Highlights

Shannon Wommack won the Southern Conference Women's Cross Country Individual Championship, and Gediminas Banevicius won the SoCon Men's Championship.
 
Shannon Wommack was named the SoCon Female Indoor Performer of the Year at the Indoor Championships for the second consecutive year.  Head coach Bill Gautier was named SoCon Coach of the Year for the second time.
 
Gina Recher was named SoCon Female Outdoor Performer of the Year at the Outdoor Championships after claiming first place in the 5,000 meters, first in the 10,000 meters and third in the 1,500.
 
Soccer player Elfa Erlingsdottir was chosen to play on the Icelandic Women's National Soccer Team which faced the World-Cup Champion USA Team in a game in February.
 
Wrestlers Jacob Harris and Jared Sullivan each won Southern Conference Wrestling titles and earned berths at the NCAA Championships.
 
UTC claimed Southern Conference Championships in women's basketball and softball.  The women's basketball team participated in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season, and the softball team competed in the NCAAs for the fourth consecutive season.
 
Melissa Ramirez was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2003 Southern Conference Softball Tournament and led the Lady Mocs to their fourth consecutive title.
 
Charlotte Goude and Jason Ontog both earned First-Team All-SoCon tennis honors in singles, and the duos of Catherine Allen and Cynthia Oulevay and Ontog and Thomas Knizat picked up Second-Team All-SoCon doubles honors.
 
The University and the City of Chattanooga were awarded hosting privileges for the 2004 NCAA Women's Basketball Championships First and Second Rounds, the 2005 Southern Conference Basketball Championships and the 2005 NCAA Women's Basketball Regional.
