Lady Mocs Fall to Baylor In NCAA Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Lady Mocs cut an 11-point halftime deficit to just one point 10 minutes into the second half, but couldn't hold on as Baylor claimed a 68-55 NCAA first round win over Chattanooga at the RBC Center Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

Laura Hall drained a 3-pointer with 10:08 to play, cutting the lead to 45-44. UTC kept it to within five over the next three minutes before Baylor began to pull away on a 3-pointer from Latara Darrett at the 6:02 mark to go up by eight.

The Lady Mocs started out slow, unable to score until the 16:13 mark of the game when Alex Anderson fed Kristen Spann, cutting the score to 6-2. Chattanooga came back and tied the game at 6-6 less than two minutes later, but never got closer than two points the remainder of the half.

Chattanooga was 5-for-20 from the 3-point line and shot 32.8 percent from the floor. Alex Anderson tallied her 17th double-double of the year and Brooke Hand claimed the Southern Conference and Chattanooga 3-point single season record with three in the game to reach 90 this year, surpassing the previous best mark by three.

Anderson led the Lady Mocs with 16 points and Hand had 14 and six rebounds. Kristen Spann scored nine points for UTC with five rebounds in 13 minutes of play.

Chattanooga closes out the year with a 25-8 mark while Baylor improves to 26-7 and will move on to play #4 NC State Tuesday in Round Two.
