Lady Mocs Extend Win Streak with Win over Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Alex Anderson tallied her fifth double-double of the season and led Chattanooga to a 74-49 Southern Conference win over Wofford Monday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena. The Lady Mocs improve to 16-3 overall and 8-0 in league play while extending its win streak to 11 games.

 

Anderson scored a game-high 24 points and had a season-best 16 rebounds as the Lady Mocs pulled away from the Terriers in the second half. Jenaya Wade-Fray went 3-for-7 from the 3-point line and had 14 points and six rebounds while Shanara Hollinquest was the third Chattanooga player in double figures with 12 points.

 

Wofford (9-9, 2-5) scored first in the game and it would be its only lead as the Lady Mocs mounted a 7-0 run to take an early lead. Chattanooga's lead grew to as much as 13, 29-16, in the first half on a jumper by Anderson with 2:13 to play in the half. However, Wofford close it back to within 10 at the break with the Lady Mocs leading 31-21.

 

The second half started with a Brooke Hand 3-pointer to push the lead back to 13, but the Terriers would cut the lead to single digits, 44-36 with 13:23 to play behind a team effort. Chattanooga outscored Wofford 30-13 for the remainder of the game and held the Terriers scoreless for nearly five minutes expanding its lead to 67-42, its largest, with 4:22 to play.

 

Chattanooga was 27-for-63 from the field (42.9 %), but struggled from beyond the arc making just 5-of-20 and shot just 55.6 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Mocs outscored Wofford in the paint 34-20 and scored 24 points off 20 turnovers and out rebounded Wofford 47-42.

 

The win is the 150th Southern Conference regular season win for Wes Moore whose UTC record improved to 231-65 (10 years) and career mark moved to 431-121 (19 years).

 

The Lady Mocs will host College of Charleston (9-8, 5-1 SoCon) Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. following the Mocs' game with Appalachian State.
