BOX SCORE AND PLAY-BY-PLAY
GREENVILLE, S.C. --- Chattanooga shot a blistering 72 percent in the second half and rolled to its 24th consecutive Southern Conference win Tuesday night, defeating Furman 82-38 at Timmons Arena.
After shooting just 33.3 percent in the first half, the Lady Mocs (5-3, 2-0) were 18-of-25 in the latter stanza, 4-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc and near perfect from the free throw line. Chattanooga's lone miss from the charity stripe resulted in a 3-point shot by Erin Ogan to double the score at 48-24 at the 15:58 mark of the second half.
Furman's (3-5, 0-2) only lead of the game came on the first basket. After that Chattanooga had the Paladins in the rearview mirror. After leading 6-4 at the 16 minute mark, the Lady Mocs held Furman scoreless, exploding for a 14-0 run over the next eight minutes to lead 20-4.
The Paladins' Lee Stephens stepped up her game late in the first half to keep the game within reason going into the half. She poured in all 11 of her first half points in the final 6:33 of the half, but it wasn't enough as Chattanooga carried a 33-20 advantage into the half.
In the second half, Shanara Hollinquest scored UTC's first six points of the half and expanded the lead to 39-23 with just 2:02 gone in the half. The Lady Mocs would continue to pour on the offense as all but one Chattanooga player scored in the contest.
LaCondra Mason led four Lady Mocs in double figures with 16 points and grabbed seven boards. Hollinquest just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine boards while Erin Ogan and Jenaya Wade-Fray each had 10 points.
Stephens led all scorers with 19 points in the game and was the only Paladin player in double figures. The Lady Mocs held Furman to just 11 baskets and a dismal 23.4 percent performance on the night.
Chattanooga matched its best 3-point shooting performance of the year with nine on the night and allowed Furman just four in the game with two from Stephens.
The Lady Mocs' road odyssey will continue in the Palmetto State with a league contest Saturday, Dec. 13 at Wofford. The game will tip at 3 p.m.
