Lady Mocs Head to Elon for Faceoff with Phoenix

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga softball team will look to tighten its grip on first place in the Southern Conference standings with a three-game series at Elon this weekend. Saturday will mark the conference road opener for the Lady Mocs, who had their first scheduled league road trip rained out at UNC Greensboro. All-time UTC is 10-5 in conference road openers and has won five in a row.

The team is currently mired in a three-game losing streak however, after being swept by Jacksonville State in a midweek doubleheader. UTC lost 11-9 in Game 1 and fell 5-4 in the nightcap. In the Game 1 loss to the Gamecocks, the Lady Mocs set a season-high for hits with 14. All nine UTC starters had a hit in the contest with seven of them recording a RBI. Michelle Fuzzard hit two home runs in the set and Tiffany Baker launched her team-leading, sixth homer of the season.

Scouting the Phoenix

Elon welcomes the Lady Mocs for its conference home opener. The Phoenix split a midweek double header with Longwood this week to improve their record to 8-12 on the season. In the Southern Conference, Elon is still looking for its first league win, as the team has dropped their first three. Brandi Jones is leading the team at the plate with a .303 batting average. She also paces the team with 15 runs scored. Ashlee Crew has supplied the power for the Phoenix, driving in 16 and belting three home runs. In the circle, Elon has a team ERA of 6.38 with Erin O'Shea leading the team with four wins.

Previous Meeting
Freshman outfielder Lyndsey Stiles went 2-for-3 with a triple and a stolen while freshman pitcher Kaity Holloway pitched three scoreless innings of relief as Chattanooga notched a 4-2 victory over Elon on Apr. 13 at Jim Frost Stadium.

First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday from East Field on Elon's campus. Sunday's contest will be a 1 p.m. start as well.
