SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team saw its playoff hopes dashed with a 45-14 loss at No. 7 Wofford tonight.  The Mocs struggled on offense all night, putting up a season-low 322 yards against the No. 5 ranked defense in the country.

Despite the loss, Chattanooga finishes in third place in the Southern Conference with a 6-5 overall record and 5-3 in league play.  UTC records back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1990 and 1991.  The five SoCon wins are the most for Chattanooga since the 1985 season.

Wofford opened up the scoring after forcing a three-and-out on the Mocs' opening drive.  The Terriers Eric Breitenstein scored on a 37-yard run for a 7-0 lead at the 12:44 mark in the first quarter.

The Mocs looked to tie the score and their next possession when freshman Keon Williams (South Pittsburg, Tenn.) broke loose on a fourth-and-3 from the Wofford 34.  The Terrier's Blake Wylie slapped the ball free on the two-yard line as Williams was about to score.  The ball bounced to the back of the end zone and UTC's Joel Bradford fielded it cleanly.  Unfortunately for the Mocs, he was called out of bounds and a touchback was awarded to Wofford.

That play completely changed the momentum of the game as Chattanooga would struggle to get things going on offense for the rest of the night.  Wofford went up 14-0 later in the first when Breitenstein punched one in from two-yards out, capping a Terrier drive of 48 yards on nine plays.

UTC tried to answer, moving into the red zone on their ensuing drive.  However, its momentum stalled and sophomore Jeff Veres (Thompson's Station, Tenn.) was forced to attempt a 27-yard FG.  His kick went wide-right and the Mocs continued to trail 14-0.

UTC finally got on the board in the second quarter on a seven-play, 58-yard drive.  Coleman hit Bradford on back-to-back big gains on the drive.  The first was for 14 yards on a third-and-nine and the second was for 17 yards on the ensuing first down.  Coleman then found Garrett Hughes (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) for 20 yards on a second-and-eight down to the Terriers' four yard line.  Senior Erroll Wynn (Jonesboro, Ga.) took it in from there for his fifth rushing touchdown of the year.

The Mocs needed a stop on the next their next possession but instead gave up a long scoring pass on the third play of the drive.  Wofford's Mitch Allen connected with Brenton Bersin for 43 yards and the touchdown.  That gave the Terriers a 21-7 lead that they would take into halftime.

Wofford came out with the opening possession of the second half and Chattanooga looked to have them stopped quickly.  After a block-in-the-back was called against the Terriers, UTC needed to hold on a third-and-12 on Wofford's 45.  Allen hooked up again with Bersin, this time for 42 yards to the Mocs' 13 yard-line, setting up Breitenstein's 2-yard score five plays later.

Wofford went up 31-7 on a 37-yard field goal by Christian Reed and carried that lead into the fourth quarter.  Chattanooga threatened on their next two possessions, but one drive was stalled and the other ended in an interception.  Coleman tried to hit Brian Sutherland (Smyrna, Ga.) on the near side, but Wofford's Coleman Hornaday made a leaping grab and ran the pick back to the UTC 48.  It was the first time in nearly three games that Coleman was intercepted.

Allen made the score 38-7 on an 11-yard strike just 7 plays later, all but icing the game with 10 minutes in the fourth.  On the first play of the next drive Williams fumbled for the Mocs, giving the Terriers the ball on the UTC 30.

Wofford's Byran Youman scored again from 13 yards and UTC sophomore Chris Awuah (Marietta, Ga.) blocked a punt and recovered it for a score to round out the final tally.

Year No. 2 in the Russ Huesman era closes, one-win shy of what would have been a near-lock for an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs.  The Mocs had 11 seniors play in their final game tonight, including offensive linemen Justin Galyon, Chris Harr and T.J. Hurless, full back Courtland Ellzey, running back Erroll Wynn, tight ends Garrett Hughes and Ryan Geist, receivers Chris Pitchford and Chris Marshall, defensive back Buster Skrine and defensive end Jaron Norfleet

Bradford finishes the season with a school record 1,284 receiving yards.  His 81 catches rank No. 4 on the Mocs' single-season list.  Coleman is held without a touchdown pass for the first time this season and finishes one shy of the school record with 26 on the year.
