Chattanooga is now 16-7 overall and 11-3 in Southern Conference action falling to third behind Appalachian State and Davidson while the Paladins climb above .500 and break a four-game losing skid to improve to 12-11 overall and 8-6 in league play.

Junior Kayla Christopher (Oliver Springs, Tenn.) led the Lady Mocs with 18 points and was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc while classmate Kylie Lambert (Etowah, Tenn.) chipped in 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, 2-of-2 from the 3-point line, and five rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Hall (New Tazewell, Tenn.) had a team-high six rebounds. Senior Tenisha Townsend went 3-of-8 from 3-point land for nine points, five rebounds and four assists with two steals.

Furman scored the first two points of the game on a pair of free throws before Chattanooga went on an 11-2 run and led 11-4. The two teams exchanged a pair of free throws to make it 13-6 with 14:22 to play in the first.

Furman's Teshia Griswold, who led all scorers with 22 points and had a team-high six rebounds, sparked a 12-0 run over the next 4:11 to take an 18-13 lead. Brittany Hodges contributed five points in the run and finished with 15 points and five rebounds.

Chattanooga retook the lead 1:13 later on Christopher's second 3-pointer of the game at the 8:44 mark and a free throw from senior Whitney Hood (Meridian, Miss.) put UTC up top 21-18 at the 8:02 mark of the first half.

Furman reeled off seven more unanswered points to retake the lead, 25-21 with 4:54 to play in the half and carried a 33-28 lead into the locker room at the half, outscoring UTC 15-7 in the finals minutes of the first.

Chattanooga came out fighting to start the second half. Furman struck first on a layup from Hodges to push the Paladin lead to seven points, 35-28, but UTC would reel off 11 straight points and take a 39-35 lead with 17:36 to play on a jumper from Hall.

Furman would have an answer again with 12 straight points, including a pair of 3-pointers from Raegan Thompson to go up 47-39 with 13:31 to play. Six points from sophomore Faith Dupree (Knoxville, Tenn.) in an 8-3 effort from UTC got the Lady Mocs back to within three points, 50-47, at the 10:51 mark.

Furman went on a 19-9 run over the next 8:31 to take a 69-56 lead with 2:08 to play and Chattanooga would get only as close as eight points the remainder of the way.

The loss is just the first for Chattanooga to Furman since 2002, snapping a 21-game Lady Mocs win streak over the Paladins. UTC went 9-for-26 from the 3-point line but shot a dismal 6-of-17 from the free throw line after averaging a SoCon-best 75 percent. Chattanooga was 23-of-62 from the field and suffered 15 turnovers.

Furman outrebounded UTC 40-38 but Chattanooga managed 16 points off 16 offensive boards. The Paladins outscored the Lady Mocs 14-6 in the paint and each team got 12 points from the bench.
