The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team hosts Wofford Saturday at Noon in Maclellan Gym. UTC is 19-4 and 8-2 in the Southern Conference, half a match behind Furman for first place.
"It's been two tough road matches in really tough environments at UNCG and Mercer," head coach
Travis Filar stated. "It'll be great to be back in the friendly walls of Maclellan Gym on Saturday during homecoming."
Chattanooga split road matches over the last week, dropping a five-setter to the Spartans and beating the Bears 3-1.
Junior
Kristy Wieser (Lincoln, Neb.) leads the squad with a .374 attack percentage after hitting a .611 clip against Mercer. Sophomore
Lauren Greenspoon (Houston, Texas) boasts a league-best 11.40 assists per set.
Senior
Catherine Chason (Alpharetta, Ga.) has racked up a team-high of 403 digs (4.74 per set) and 30 service aces. Freshman
Miranda Elpers (Louisville, Ky.) follows with 235 digs (2.94 per set) and 19 aces.
"We're hoping for a big crowd against a really improved Wofford team," said Filar. "We're also improving as well from the first half of the conference season. It's exciting as a coach to see them want more and understand that they can keep improving."
UTC beat the Terriers 3-0 in Spartanburg, S.C., on Sept. 29. Chattanooga leads the all-time series 26-5.
Wofford is 15-12 and fourth in the league at 6-4. The squad is coming off wins over ETSU (3-1), Western Carolina (3-0) and Mercer (3-2).
Senior libero Jessica Graham was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 19-25. She has tallied 465 digs, averaging 4.70 per set. Sophomore setter Molly Mayo is ranked 53rd nationally for assists per set at 10.62.
Fans are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes. Following the match, the Mocs are giving out candy.
