Volleyball Nets Transfer Setter Madison Bergren

SCHEDULE

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Chattanooga Mocs volleyball coach Travis Filar announces the addition of Madison Bergren to the 2015 roster. Bergren transfers to the Scenic City from UT Martin with three years of eligibility remaining.

"I could not be more excited to add a setter of this caliber to our program," Filar stated. "Madison comes with great experience having already run a college offense in the way we want to run ours. That's fast-paced with consistent location and tempo, and working hard to put our attackers in the best position to be successful.

"Her training background and experience before college also adds so much to the culture of our program. She is an alum from one of the best-known training and teaching-focused volleyball programs in the country, Munciana Volleyball Club out of Muncie, Indiana.

"She will compete to run our offense, and I believe we are adding an incredible teammate, student-athlete and person."

Bergren prepped for Heidi Zickgraf at Delta High School in Muncie while playing club ball for Munciana. She was a second team All-State pick, while earning All-Hoosier Heritage Conference and All-County honors as a senior ranking in the top 5 in the state with 1,071 assists eclipsing 50 four times. Bergren delivered 1,923 assists over her final two high school campaigns.

Her club record was a phenomenal 76-5 under the direction of former college coach Mike Lingenfelter. She led the asics Munciana Samurai squad to a runner-up finish in the 18 open division at the AAU Nationals.

Bergren led the Skyhawks offense with 935 assists. She ranked in the top five on the squad in kills (5th), service aces (2nd), digs (4th) and block solos (4th). Dangerous around the net, she added a .317 attack percentage in limited attacks putting down 103 kills.

She comes from a volleyball family, specifically at the setter position. Older sister Morgan is a senior at Kentucky and returning two-year starter at setter. Morgan was a 2014 second team All-American.

The Mocs open the season August 28-29 in Maclellan Gym for the Chattanooga Classic presented by Hampton Inn & Suites (Downtown Chattanooga). The tournament presents the first three of a 14-match home slate. Admission is free.
