Chattanooga Set to Host Samford

The Mocs volleyball team will kick-off a three-match homestand Wednesday night against Samford.

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team will begin a three-match homestand with a matchup against Samford on Wednesday inside Maclellan Gym at 6:00 p.m.  

The Mocs are coming off a 3-2 (26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 8-15) road loss to UNCG on Saturday and fell to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in Southern Conference play.

"I'm excited to be back in Maclellan and even more excited to see our team's growth and response after last week," said coach Travis Filar. "I know our focus, effort and energy will be great and that will allow us to be successful on our side of the net."

Samford enters the match with a 12-10 overall record and a 3-4 record in SoCon play. The Bulldogs earned a 3-0 sweep over the Mocs in Birmingham back on Sept. 23 in the SoCon opener for both teams. Samford has notched conference wins over Mercer and The Citadel, in addition to UTC.

The Bulldogs are led by first year head coach Keylor Chan who came to Birmingham after previously spending 15 years as head coach of Big Ten member Northwestern University. He has notched 266 wins during his career including 11 seasons of 16 or more wins with four NCAA tournament appearances.  

Samford poses a threat on offense as six different Bulldogs have already registered over 100 kills each and is led by Erin Bogner who has totaled the second most kills in the conference with 331. Erika Pifer directs the offense and leads the SoCon with 736 assists. Defensively, Grace Tiesman leads the team with 329 digs with a 3.92 digs/set average. At the net, Krista Boesing has totaled the third-most blocks in the conference with 88.0 and leads the SoCon with 77 block assists.
