CHATTANOOGA vs. FLORIDA
Chattanooga is 2-1 against the Gators and the two have never met in Chattanooga. In the last meeting in 1986, Florida came away with an 86-78 victory at the UAB Lady Blazer Invitational.The Mocs host #20 Florida Monday night at the McKenzie Arena. Both teams posted season-opening wins last Friday.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga opened the 2016-17 season with a 66-53 win over Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
Chelsey Shumpert, in her return debut, led the Mocs with 18 points and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
Keiana Gilbert posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while
Jasmine Joyner contributed 13 points, making 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Queen Alford was the fourth UTC player in double figures, dropping in 12 points with a pair of 3-pointers.
The Mocs shot 41.1 percent (23-56) from the field and had three 3-pointers while sizzling with a 17-of-18 performance from the free throw line.
Jim Foster, in his fourth season as the head coach at Chattanooga, takes over eighth place in the NCAA for wins with 866 over his 39 year career. He is 866-323 overall and 83-16 at UTC.
FLORIDA
The Gators are ranked 20
th in the Associated Press Preseason poll and posted an 85-33 season-opening win over South Alabama.
Florida shot 53.5 percent (38-71) from the field and was 3-of-16 from beyond the arc while making 6-of-8 attempts from the free throw line. Ronni Williams, Eleanna Christanki and Haley Lorenzen each has a game-high 16 points with Williams adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Tyshara Fleming, off the bench, was the fourth player in double figures with 11 points. Dyandria Anderson had a game-high six assists and six steals. Christinaki and Elif Portakal each dished out five assists and Delicia Washington had four swipes.
Head coach Amanda Butler enters her ninth season with the Gators. She has a 154-112 record at Florida and a 194-134 overall mark in 11 years.
