The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team will head to Birmingham, Ala., on the campus of Samford University to participate in the Southern Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed.
UTC concluded the regular season with a 17-12 overall record and finished third in the conference standings with a 10-6 mark. As the No. 3 seed they will face No. 6 Mercer in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. (EDT) inside the Pete Hanna Center.
Chattanooga swept Mercer in the regular season by winning in straight sets both on the road and at home. The Mocs hit at a .312 clip in those two matches while out-blocking the Bears 13.0-7.0. Mercer is led by Tori Penrod who ranks second in the conference and 17th nationally with 5.22 digs per set.
ETSU earned the No. 1 seed with a 21-7, 13-3 record and claimed their first regular season title for the program since 1991. The Buccaneers will face the winner of No. 8 Furman (10-18, 6-10) and No. 9 The Citadel (8-24, 1-15).
UNCG is slotted at the No. 2 spot as they finished the season 17-12 and 11-5 in the SoCon and will take on No. 7 Western Carolina as the Catamounts held an 11-18, 6-10 record.
Tournament-host Samford is the No. 4 seed after an 18-13, 9-7 campaign and will face the No. 5 Wofford who concluded at 17-17, 9-7. The two teams were tied in the conference standings but the Bulldogs earned the four seed virtue the league's tiebreaker.
The tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
