Mocs Host No. 2 Notre Dame Tuesday

Final home non-conference game for the Mocs

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team will host No. 2 Notre Dame Tuesday night at the McKenzie Arena in its final non-conference home game. This game will be the Mocs' fifth against a Top 25 ranked opponent and third against a team ranked in the top four.
 
Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw, a 1977 graduate of St. Joe's, got her collegiate coaching career started as an assistant to Jim Foster at her alma mater.

CHATTANOOGA vs. NOTRE DAME
This will be just the second meeting between these two teams. The Irish came away with an 88-53 win over the Mocs two years ago in South Bend. Chattanooga got out to a strong lead, getting out front 10-6 less than five minutes into the contest. After getting behind by a seemingly unsurmountable 73-30 margin with 9:23 remaining in the game, the UTC outscored Notre Dame 23-15 the rest of the way. Jasmine Joyner set a then-school record with eight blocks in the game despite getting in to foul trouble early.
 
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs are 5-7 on the year. In their last outing, UTC fell 68-55 at Florida Gulf Coast, ending a two-game win streak. Chattanooga is averaging 59.2 points per game, outscored by its opponents an average 2.7 points per game. UTC averaged 40 percent shooting from the field and is 72-of-257 (.280) from beyond the arc, averaging six 3-pointers per game. From the free throw line, Chattanooga is shooting 75 percent with four starters hitting better than 70 percent. Chelsey Shumpert leads the way making 90 percent of her attempts this season. On the boards, the Mocs average 33.1 rebounds per game, edged slightly by its opponents at 33.2 per game. UTC has 11.5 assists, 5.8 steals and a league-leading 6.0 blocked shots per game.
 
Jasmine Joyner is averaging just shy of a double-double this season with 11.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She leads the nation in total blocked shots with 48 and ranks second in blocked shots per game with 4.0. She moved to 25th in the NCAA for career blocks with 362 and leads the Southern Conference.
 
Queen Alford and Lakelyn Bouldin also average double figures for UTC with 10.4 and 10.2 respectively. Bouldin has a team-high 24 3-pointers and Alford is shooting 81.8 percent from the free throw line. Shumpert is fourth on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game while Keiana Gilbert is second on the team in rebounding with 5.3 per game and is averaging 8.9 ppg. She has a team-best 36 assists and is second for steals (13) and blocked shots (10).
 
Head Coach Jim Foster is in his fourth year with the Mocs and his 39th overall. He has 870 career victories, ranked eighth all-time in the NCAA, and is 87-23 at Chattanooga.
 
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME
The Irish are 11-1 with their only loss coming against top-ranked UConn. Notre Dame is outscoring opponents by more than 24 points per game, averaging 82.2 an outing. The Irish are shooting 48.9 percent from the field. With 67 3-pointers on the year, ND is shooting 39.4 percent from beyond the arc and 70.2 percent from the free throw line. On the boards, the Irish are outrebounding opponents 42.1-31.8. They have 19.5 assists, 11.1 steals and 4.3 blocked shots per game.
 
Arike Ogunbowale and Brianna Turner lead the team in scoring with 15.3 per game. Ogunbowale has 16 3-pointers while Turner is 35-of-56 from the free throw line and leads the team with 7.3 rebounds. Marina Mabrey is the third player in double figures for the Irish with 13.1 points per game , shooting 45 percent from the field. Lindsay Allen is leading ND with 85 assists with 114 steals and is fourth in scoring with 9.5 points per game.
 
Head Coach Muffet McGraw is in her 30th season with the Irish and has a 743-224 record and in her 35th season as a head coach, has 831 wins. She was a finalist last year for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and again has been nominated this year.
