Soccer Blanks Belmont 2-0 in Preseason Exhibition

Box Score University of Tennessee at Chattanooga freshman Hannah Torbett (Kingsport, Tenn.) notched her second goal in two games as the Mocs blanked Belmont 2-0 late Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium.

Torbett's goal came in the came in the 27th minute. She picked up a rebound off the post from freshman Kaylin Hermanutz (Edmonton, Alberta) for what would prove to be the game winning goal. Chattanooga carried that lead into intermission.

"It was a great team goal," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "Kaylin struck it initially and Hannah was in the right place at the right time."

After getting outshot 8-4 in the first half, the Mocs' defense allowed just one shot in the second frame and getting off six of their own. Freshman keeper Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) had all four of UTC's saves in the first half.

"The second goal from Ellie was a fantastic finish," McKinney said. "Overall we created some good opportunities for ourselves."

UTC edged Belmont 10-9 on shots and the Mocs had five shots on goal to the Bruins' four. Belmont used three keepers in the match while Chattanooga split time between Correa and senior Katie Emig (Knoxville, Tenn.).

Myrik led all with four shots including two on goal and Hermanutz had two for the Mocs. Belmont's Belicia Mendiola led the Bruin's with three shots on the day.

"I thought it was a really good team performance," McKinney said. "We built off the result from Friday and fixed a few things. We looked good."

The Mocs open the season at home Friday night at Finley Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Kennesaw State. The South Gate will open at 7 p .m. and admission is free. Follow the action at GoMocs.com.
