Mocs Host Kennesaw State Friday at McCallie

UTC also has a neutral match against Memphis at MTSU on Sunday.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team is back in action this weekend with a pair of matches.  UTC hosts hosting Kennesaw State on Friday, Jan. 27, and then travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to play against Memphis on Sunday, Jan. 29.

Chattanooga welcomes the Owls on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) start at McCallie's Strang-Voges Tennis Center. Sunday, the Tigers and Mocs play on a neutral site at MTSU for a 11:00 a.m. start. Live scoring is available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

"Friday's match will be battle," stated UTC head  coach Chad Camper.  "KSU always comes to play. They are great competitors, so we need to play within our strengths and not have any let downs. The team is feeling good, and we need to keep this momentum."

UTC is currently 2-1 overall with a big 4-3 win over Air Force in Knoxville last weekend.  Junior Samantha Caswell leads the team with a 2-0 record at No. 1.  Sophomore Sydney Patton also has a 2-0 record at No. 3 singles in the spring.

Caswell and senior Rachele Gazzola have a 2-0 mark at No. 1 doubles.  Sophomores Mckenzie Barco and Caroline Hall are 2-1 at No. 3.

The Owls bring a 0-1 record, having lost their season opener at Samford (7-0) on Sunday.  The Mocs are 7-0 in the all-time series, including a 4-0 mark in Chattanooga.  UTC won last year's meeting 5-2 on March 23.

The Memphis match was a late addition to the schedule.  The Tigers are 1-0 after a 4-3 win against UAB last week.  The Mocs are 7-8 all-time against Memphis, and have dropped the last two in the series.  The Tigers won the last meeting 6-1 on Jan. 17 last year.

"Memphis has had a great history of women's tennis," added Camper.  "Momentum will be important, so fighting for that doubles point will be crucial. Both teams are still working out the kinks, so changes during the match will play a big part."
