Mocs Score 4-1 Win at Alabama State

Box Score The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team scored a 4-1 win at Alabama State today.  The Mocs won their fifth in a row to improve to 11-3 overall, while the Hornets dropped to 7-6.

The Mocs had to battle for the opening doubles point.  Alabama State took the first match with a win at No. 2.  Sophomores Caroline Hall and Mckenzie Barco responded with their third win in a row at No. 3.  They needed an extra game to take out Mirna Curcic and Gabriela Lackova 7-5.

Senior Rachele Gazzola and junior Samantha Caswell scored their fourth-straight win to clinch the doubles point at No. 1.  They defeated Brankica Orlovic and Marija Blazevic in a tiebreaker 7-6 (3).

"We came out with a great win," stated UTC head coach Chad Camper.  "We had some tough weather in the beginning with the wind, but we just found a way to get four points."

Hall made it 2-0 with a win at No. 3.  It was her fifth in a row as she improved to 11-2 in the spring.  ASU got on the board with a win at No. 2, but the Mocs took the next two at No. 4 and No. 5.

Sophomore Sydney Patton moved to 9-0 at No. 4, while Gazzola clinched the win at No. 5.

"It was a really rowdy and hungry Alabama State team," added Camper.  They are very experience and very well coached.  It was a tough environment and a good crowd, but it was really great for us to experience that and fight through it.

"I was really proud that we gave it our all today and that is all I expect us to do."

Chattanooga returns to Southern Conference action next weekend with a trip to ETSU.  The match against the Bucs is set for Friday, March 17, at 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) in Johnson City, Tenn.
