MBB Preview: Wednesday Starts Three-Game Homestand

Rodney Chatman has recorded eight or more assists in three straight games for the Chattanooga Mocs.

GAME NOTES | ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs return to McKenzie Arena this week opening a three-game homestand Wednesday night against Samford. The Mocs come home after a three-game road swing that provides significant optimism despite heart-breaking finishes.

Chattanooga dropped all three games of the trip. It started with an overtime loss at The Citadel and was followed two nights later again in extra time at Mercer. Wofford completed the trifecta coming back to nip the Mocs in the final minute.

The Mocs departed Chattanooga as banged up as they'd been all season. Just seven student-athletes made it on the court in Charleston and Macon. Junior Makinde London and freshman James Lewis, Jr., returned at Wofford and were welcome additions making it seven squad members who were on the roster on October 1.

Nat Dixon leads the way at 14.2 points per game. His 16.6 scoring average in Southern Conference games ranks fifth. Dixon, Rodney Chatman and Makale Foreman are the only Mocs to start every game, while David Jean-Baptiste joins the trio playing in all 20 contests.

Chatman's certainly making his point over the last trio of contests. He's the FIRST Moc to record eight or more assists in three straight Southern Conference matchups tallying eight at The Citadel and Mercer before dishing out nine last Saturday at Wofford.

Wednesday's 7 p.m., tipoff features Hometown Heroes Night. All active military, veterans, police, fire and first responders receive a FREE general admission ticket to the game with a valid service ID.

The Zooperstars come to McKenzie Arena for Saturday's matchup with VMI. The group performs at halftime of both games that day with the ladies hosting Mercer at 2 p.m.

UNCG's visit on Monday features a t-shirt giveaway celebrating alum Terrell Owens. Owens, who played basketball as well as football for the Mocs, is a finalist for the NFL Hall of Fame.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
  • Rodney Chatman's posted 5.7 apg over last 11 with 2.42 A/TO ratio (63/26) after 3.3 apg/1.0 A/TO in first nine.
  • Injuries wreaked havoc on the Mocs this season. Just going by who is available consistently game-to-game on the roster, the opening five games is the longest stretch. Second-longest is the three-game stretch vs. Furman, at The Citadel and at Mercer featuring just eight. More on injuries on page 4 of the notes linked above
  • Speaking of consistency, junior forward Nat Dixon has been a model of it thus far. He's reached double figures in 18 of the 20 games; three times topping the 20-point plateau. Dixon's on a streak of 10 in a row in double digits. He's tallied 17.2 points per game over that stretch raising his season average from 11.1 to a team-best 14.2 per contest.
