The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team scored five singles wins at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals at the Champions Club today. Freshman
Lily Holmes led the way, advancing to the semifinals of the Flight B Singles.
Holmes, the No. 2 seed in the bracket, won her quarterfinal match against Lipscomb's seventh-seeded Maddox Bandy in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-4).
Holmes dropped her semifinal match to the No. 6 seed Claire Sullivan of Memphis, also in three sets [4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4)].
"Lily getting to the semifinals in singles in her first collegiate tournament, just a year away from surgery, is a huge achievement," stated UTC head coach
Chad Camper. "She gained a lot of knowledge and we learned how to proceed in the future."
The remaining UTC wins all came in the back draw. Senior
Caroline Hall, junior
Annie Tarwater, sophomore
Emma Van Hee and freshman
Polina Goloputova all had victories today. Tarwater's win was a comebacker in three sets.
"We had some good wins today," added Camper. "I feel we hit our stride and the real gained a lot of confidence."
