It's just the sixth time the two squads have met and only the second since the Mocs move to DI in 1977-78. The last matchup was just last December with Chattanooga topping the 49ers 64-50. STORY | STATS | NOTES | QUOTES

That was last year. While the 49ers return three starters and eight total letter winners from that game, the Mocs have just one, David Jean-Baptiste.

That lack of experience showed in Chattanooga's final tune up to the regular season, a 62-60 exhibition win over DII neighbor Lee last Thursday night. Despite just one letter winner back, the Mocs have shown an ability to come together late in contests. That should serve them well is last year's pattern holds true with this crew as the 2017-18 Mocs had 11 games go into the final possession. They were 4-7 in those cases.

NOTABLE
  • Chattanooga has the fewest returning letter winners in the nation with one (David Jean-Baptiste). Duane Moss received a medical redshirt after playing in the first seven last season. They are one of 16 teams in the nation with one or fewer seniors/graduate transfers on the roster. Kentucky is the only other program without a senior yet with a graduate transfer. Also one of 16 programs with eight or more scholarship freshmen/sophomores on their rosters.
  • 30-11 during the DI era in season openers: 22-0 at home, 4-10 away and 4-1 on a neutral floor. 1st season opener against a CUSA team. The program opened the season against teams currently in the CUSA three times (LA Tech 1977, Middle Tennessee 1981, Old Dominion 1999), but never against a league member at the time of the contest.
  • The Mocs have the fourth fewest career points among its current roster with 241. That trails Mount St. Mary's (103), UT Arlington (130) and UNC Asheville (141).

QUOTABLE
More Paris on the first real game experience:
"A lot of guy will be anxious and excited. It's their first college game for many at the DI level. So yeah, it's a big deal in terms of learning experience on the court as well as getting acclimated to what that atmosphere and environment is."

Junior college transfer Jonathan Scott on getting his first playing opportunity in a Mocs uniform:
"We've been working up to this for a long time. With so many of us being new, I'm new, it's an exciting time for sure. It's all about us getting better and tweaking things for when the regular season starts."
