There are conspiracy theories everywhere these days. Politics, real life, so many areas touched by thoughts that something under the surface is causing an issue or finding it in something seemingly so innocent. It's reached the Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball program.
Yes, the rumors are everywhere. They're swirling around true freshman
Keigan Kerby. What about the hair Kerby? For his part, he seems oblivious to the questions, the raging undercurrent of why he cut that marvelous mass of hair you see above.
"It was a functional reason," Kerby claimed. "In practice, it was hitting me in the face when I was shooting, I was struggling to keep it clear from my face. It was also a lot to maintain. Functional maintenance is all it is. Maybe look more presentable."
So what are the theories?
The most intriguing comes from redshirt freshman
Duane Moss. After the cut, Kerby bears a resemblance to Moss.
"He wants to look like me," Moss shared. "You can't just have
that hair and then downgrade to my kind of hair. That's just how it is.
"There's no other answer. He just wants to look like me is all it is."
(Kerby declined an opportunity for a photo with Moss for this article)
Fellow redshirt freshman
Justin Brown isn't buying it. He has his own ideas and it literally "flows" from what Brown and Kerby once shared in regards to their coifs.
"With him coming in as a freshman, I don't think he understood the responsibilities of being a part of the 'flow team'," Brown began. "He realized it isn't as sweet as he thought.
"Those expectations are a lot to live up to. I'm just going to have to wait on a new member. Once he gets everything together, he'll be back (on the flow team)."
There are other ideas as well. It's something we may never truly know as it applies to the personable New Englander. When pressed for explanation, he stood firm about functionality.
"I don't what these theories are, but functionality was definitely the key for me," he said before uttering another piece to the puzzle.
"Coach (Lamont) Paris said when we need a headband, we'd need a haircut."
So maybe it's not the Illuminati after all as one anonymous teammate claimed. Another source close to the situation yet asking to stay in the shadows also thought there were some follicly-challenged people in the program that pressured young Kerby.
Life is about the choices we make and maybe, just maybe, Kerby channeled Hall of Famer Pat Riley.
Riley once said, "Look for your choices, pick the best one, then go with it."
Whatever the reason, GoMocs.com celebrates the freedom we have in this country even as it applies to hairstyles. So young Kerby, we'll applaud your Moss-like existence or if you choose to go "with the flow".
Editor's note: We'd like to thank Keigan Kerby for his willingness to engage in this satire. It helps show the personality that permeates this group.
Hair: a slender threadlike outgrowth of the epidermis of an animal. Merriam-Webster
Hair: A separate creature that happens to live on your head, hard to tame. Ferociously attacking it with scissors, dye or hair products may euthanize said beast for a short while, but beware of angering it. Urban Dictionary
