Mocs Take on MTSU & Tulane in Murfreesboro This Weekend

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team has two match in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on the schedule this weekend.  The Mocs face MTSU on Friday, Feb. 23, at 6:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) and Tulane on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Adams Tennis Complex.

Chattanooga enters the weekend with a 4-2 record.  UTC's two losses were 6-1 defeats at Alabama and Clemson.  Freshman Emma Van Hee leads the way with a 4-0 mark in the spring, 2-0 at both No. 5 and No. 6.  She teams with senior Samantha Caswell for a 2-2 mark at No. 1 doubles.

MTSU is 7-4 overall.  The Blue Raiders scored a 4-3 win over SoCon-foe Samford on Feb. 9, but lost their last match 5-2 at Florida Gulf Coast.

A link for live scoring for the MTSU match is on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

"MTSU has improved a lot since last season," stated head coach Chad Camper. "Playing at their place will be a great challenge, but we know for us to win conference we have to play at that high of a level."

The Mocs posted a 4-2 win over the Blue Raiders in last year's meeting on Feb. 26 at the Baylor School.  Samantha Caswell and Caroline Hall are two returners in the lineup who posted wins in that victory.  UTC holds a 24-19 all-time advantage in the series with MTSU, however the Blue Raiders have a 15-4 lead since 2000.

Tulane is 6-4 in the spring, including a 4-2 loss at LSU in the last outing on Feb. 20.  Three of the Green Wave's four losses are to SEC teams, including Auburn and Missouri.  UTC is 0-2 all-time against Tulane, having lost matches in 1998 and 2002.

"It's always exciting to play a different team such as Tulane," added Camper. "They have a new head coach, who is doing a great job. Playing two matches back-to-back will be good for us to get prepared for conference matches."
