CHATTANOOGA – With three weeks of preseason work now in the rear view, the Chattanooga Mocs volleyball program is set to open up the 2018 season at the talent-filled Tennessee Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday and Saturday.

Chattanooga will face stiff competition this weekend beginning with Belmont on Friday and ending with a doubleheader against No. 22 Michigan State and Tennessee on Saturday. MSU advanced to the Elite 8 a season ago and enter the new season slotted in the preseason AVCA Coaches' Poll Top 25.

"It is definitely time to compete in a real match against a real opponent, and our team and staff could not be more excited to begin the 2018 campaign up the road in Knoxville.

"We will be tested by all three opponents, all three very well-coached and well-prepared programs that will bring different styles of play to each match," head coach Travis Filar stated.

Chattanooga returns 13 letter winners from a season ago while welcoming a program record seven true freshmen to the roster in 2018. The Mocs concluded the 2017 season 13-18 overall and 6-10 in SoCon play, but has appeared in the conference title match twice in the last three seasons.

UTC faces Belmont on Friday at 4 p.m. before dueling No. 22 Michigan State at 11 a.m. and Tennessee at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The final match against Tennessee will stream LIVE on the SEC Network+ and WatchESPN App platforms.

"This first weekend and all of our pre-conference opportunities are chances to get better, to become battle-tested as a strong group of 20, and to become more solid and consistent in our systems of play heading into SoCon play.

"We are thankful for the challenges ahead this weekend that we will face in Belmont, Michigan State, and Tennessee," added Filar.

For fans attending this weekend, admission is $3 per day and tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance by clicking HERE. All action will take place inside Thompson Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
