The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team won five singles matches on the first day of the 2019 UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio, today.
Freshman
Jessie Young won twice in the top spot in the hidden duals. She opened with a three-set win at No. 1 over Cincinnati's Carline Morton [5-7, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (9)]. Her second win was also a three-setter against Bowling Green's Marharita-Sophia Tavpash [3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8)].
Young had the only win in six matches against Cincinnati. The Mocs did manage to win four of six against Bowling Green.
Junior
Bogdana Zaporozhets posted a (6-1, 6-1) win over BGSU's Joanna Tsadari, followed by sophomore
Polina Goloputova's [6-4, 7-6 (5)] win against Yulia Kapitanova. Junior
Emma Van Hee had the other singles win, (6-2, 6-0) over Marta Bettinelli.
The Mocs are back on the court in tomorrow's final day of action. Doubles play begins at 10:00 a.m. (E.D.T.).
