CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs look to build on a promising run this week at the Grandover Collegiate. The Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., is the starting point for 108 final fall holes over the next 10 days.
The last time out at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational produced the fourth-lowest score in team history and the best outside the Chattanooga area. That 54-hole score of 838 included six of this year's seven cards in the 60s.
Will Porter shot a career-best 206 tying for 12th at the Alister Mackenzie. It was three better than his 209 finishing third at last year's Memphis Intercollegiate team victory with the two scores matching vs. par (-7). It ties for eight-best total in program history.
Porter (-7), Matt Smith (-2) and Oliver Simonsen (-2) all shot under par. Simonsen followed that with his first top 10 of the season shooting even (144) in the 36-hole TVA Credit Union Invite as an individual. His first three cards resulted in a 79.67 average, while the last five display a 71.00 number.
That mirrors the team as a hole. The 302.00 over the initial 54 has been cut by nearly 10 strokes to 292.11. That's 287.17 over the six cards showing a lot of growth for the group.
It's a two-day, 54-hole journey with tee times and scores accessible at the scoring link above. All eight Mocs available made the trip with five starting and three individuals.

- The squad's six rounds in the 60s at the Alister Mackenzie were by four different Mocs. The last time the squad did that in the same event was April 4-5, 2009 at the Administaff Augusta State Invite (Derek Rende-2, Fredrik Qvicker, Ben Rickett & Stephan Jaeger).
- 551 36-hole mark at the Alister Mackenzie is the 2nd-lowest 36 total behind 547 on Sept. 10, 2007 in the Scenic City Invitational at Council Fire G.C.
- Four different Mocs have par or better finishes in the last two team events with Nolan's level-par ending at the Graeme McDowell Invite joining the California trio.
