The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team heads to Knoxville Saturday to take on the University of Tennessee. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
"I think the team is really excited about playing one of the better programs in the country," stated UTC head coach
Chad Camper. "I think we are still trying to improve in some spots. After this weekend's performance, we will be able to tell more areas that we will need to improve."
The Mocs are winners of seven in a row, their longest streak since 2016. Chattanooga's overall record is 7-2, and UTC is led by current Southern Conference Player of the Week
Delaney Edwards. The senior from Lighthouse Point, Fla., is 3-0 in singles play at No. 4 and 6-2 at No. 1 doubles with sophomore
Emma Van Hee.
Van Hee and senior
Caroline Hall both have seven-match win streaks in singles play. Hall is primarily in the No. 3 slot, while Van Hee is the regular at No. 5. Sophomore
Bogdana Zaporozhets is 2-2 at No. 1 and 2-0 at No. 2.
"I think doubles has been important to us all season and it will be again on Saturday," added Camper. "Really for us, we are in a tough conference, so hanging with a top team could give us a good shot at winning the SoCon this season."
Tennessee is currently ranked No. 30 in ITA national team rankings that were released on Tuesday. The Lady Vols are 9-3 overall and winners of six in a row. They are coming off back-to-back shutouts against UT Martin (7-0) and ETSU (4-0).
Junior Johanna Silva is No. 121 in the ITA singles rankings that were released on Feb. 20. Senior Sadie Hammond and sophomore Kaitlin Staines are the No. 9 ranked doubles tandem in the nation according to the ITA.
UTC has a 5-11 all-time record against Tennessee, in a series that dates back to the Mocs first year of competition in 1976. This is the fifth time in the last six years these two teams meet, with the Lady Vols winning all four matches. Prior to the 2014 dual, the Mocs and Lady Vols had not faced each other since the 1984 season.
