PREVIEW: Volleyball Continues Early Slate at Tennessee State

Chattanooga volleyball takes a quick trip west on I-24 for a Tuesday night showdown in Nashville.

CHATTANOOGA --- After taking two of its first three matches to kick off the 2019 season last weekend, the Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team heads to Nashville for a non-conference matchup at Tennessee State Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET.

The match can be streamed LIVE on ESPN+ through the ESPN App platform with links located above and on the schedule page.

Chattanooga (2-1) is coming off back-to-back, straight-set victories over Western Illinois and Mississippi Valley State after dropping a four-set decision to Mississippi State last weekend at the StarkVegas Classic in Starkville, Miss.

Senior MB Dani Szczepanski and junior S Maddie Halsey earned spots on the StarkVegas Classic All-Tournament team after an impressive weekend.

Szczepanski finished with 32 kills at a .422 percentage, committing just four errors while adding a team-high 8.0 blocks in all 10 sets. Halsey dazzled as the signal caller, racking up 101 assists in 10 sets played, including a career-high mark of 41 against MSU.

The response of the team to earn consecutive sweeps after the opening loss was a positive sight for head coach Travis Filar.

"For opening weekend, I would say that the things we have focused on the most in preseason camp were very solid. The things that we didn't execute at a high of a level as we would like, we will focus on this week as we get back to work in the gym.

"I loved our team's response in getting two sweeps after not taking advantage of an opportunity we had against Mississippi State ... you only get one chance sometimes and we will learn from that disappointment moving forward."

Tennessee State enters the contest with a 1-2 mark after downing SEC-member Auburn in the season opener before falling to Butler and New Mexico State as part of the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala.
