Three Road Matches for the Mocs This Weekend

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team has three matches on the road this weekend.  The Mocs travel to No. 26 Tennessee on Friday before facing MTSU on Saturday and UT Martin on Sunday.

"I am very proud of this team's ability to battle in matches," stated UTC head coach Chad Camper. "This weekend, with three matches in three days, will only make us stronger. Playing at a high level and high energy will be crucial for success.

Friday's match against the Lady Vols starts at 12:30 p.m. (E.S.T.) in the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn.  Links for live scoring and live video are on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

Tennessee is 7-1 overall and No. 26 in this week's ITA Rankings.  The lone loss in the spring was against Virginia (4-3) on Jan. 25.  The Lady Vols scored a 5-2 win over Marquette last weekend, before the Golden Eagles posted a 6-1 victory against Chattanooga.

UTC has a 5-12 all-time record against Tennessee, in a series that dates back to the Mocs first year of competition in 1976.  This is the sixth time in the last seven years these two teams meet, with the Lady Vols winning all five matches.  Prior to the 2014 dual, the Mocs and Lady Vols had not faced each other since the 1984 season.

The Mocs bring a 5-2 record into the weekend and are No. 66 in the nation in this week's ITA Rankings.  UTC has dropped two of its last three after starting the season 4-0.  Junior Emma Van Hee is 5-1 in the spring, playing in the bottom half of the lineup.  Freshman Callie Billman has a 6-1 mark, mostly in the No. 6 position.

Freshman Jessie Young and junior Bogdana Zaporozhets led the Mocs in doubles play.  They are 6-1 overall and 6-0 in the No. 2 position.

MTSU is 4-5 overall and should be a good measure of where they Mocs stand against the top teams in the SoCon.  The Blue Radiers lost to Furman 6-1 on Feb. 7, and scored a 4-3 win over ETSU in their last outing on Feb. 16.

The MTSU match is scheduled to begin at Noon on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Murfreesboro, Tenn.  A link for live scoring in on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

UTC holds a 24-20 all-time advantage in the series with MTSU, however the Blue Raiders have a 16-4 lead since 2000.

The UT Martin match is also in Murfreesboro at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.  The Skyhawks are 1-4 overall, including a 6-1 win against Alabama A&M on Feb. 9.

Sunday's match against UT Martin is the 17th in the all-time series that Chattanooga leads 12-4.  The last match was a 5-2 UTC win on Feb. 24, 2019 in Chattanooga.
