Women's Basketball to Host Samford This Week

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team will host Southern Conference-leading Samford Thursday and Saturday at The McKenzie Arena. The two teams will meet Thursday and Saturday this week in Chattanooga in a revamped Southern Conference schedule.

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs are 2-1 in Southern Conference action after opening with wins over ETSU and Furman. However, the Paladins, in the second game of the series, snapped the Mocs five-game win streak, moving UTC to 7-5 overall. The Mocs are shooting 42.9 percent, second in the SoCon and average 68.5 points per game. From long range, the Mocs are second in the conference with 6.8 treys per game and are shooting 33.1 percent. On the boards, UTC is averaging 37.8 rebounds per game and rank second in the SoCon on the defensive end. Eboni Williams and Bria Dial lead the team in double figures while Williams and Abbey Cornelius are UTC's top rebounders. Williams is averaging 14.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game and has a team-best 22 steals. Dial leads the SoCon in 3-point shooting and ranks 26th in the NCAA. Cornelius, ranked 22nd in the NCAA for blocked shots, has 25 on the year and 77 over her career. Sigrun Olafsdottir is ranked fourth in the SoCon for assists with 38.
 
 
ABOUT SAMFORD
The Bulldogs are currently 3-0 in conference play and lead the league scoring (70.1), field goal percentage (.447), 3-point field goal percentage (.363) and 3-pointers made (7.5). On the boards, the Bulldogs average 37.8 rebounds per game and outrebound opponents by 3.6 per game. Samford has three players averaging double figures led by Andrea Cournoyer with 14.9 points per game. Natalie Armstrong (12.8) is second on the team and Annie Ramil (10.1) ranks 15th in the league. Ramil leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 7.4 per game followed by Armstrong with a 6.1 rebounding average. Ramil leads the SoCon in field goal percentage (.575), Raven Omar has a league-high 4.8 assists per game and Katie Allen leads the SoCon with a .523 3-point field goal percentage with Armstrong second shooting 44 percent.

• Abbey Cornelius ranks 22nd in the NCAA for blocked shots.
• Bria Dial is ranked 26th in the NCAA for 3-pointers made.
• Eboni Williams Player of the Week by the Southern Conference and College Sports Madness in back-to-back weeks - 12/22, 1/2. She was the TSWA Player of the Week Dec. 22.
• Eboni Williams has three straight double-doubles - Georgia State (30/10), N. Alabama (17/12), ETSU (18/15).
• Bria Dial has topped the 20-point mark three times this season with 20 pts against UAB and ETSU and matched her career-high with 23 against Georgia Southern.
• The Mocs were 14-of-27 from the 3-point line against Georgia Southern, fourth most by UTC in a single game. The SoCon (tied with Samford) and UTC record is 16 vs. Georgia Southern.
• Bria Dial's 23 points and Eboni Williams 20 points was the second time the two both topped 20 points in the same game. Last was UTC's triple overtime win at ETSU 2/1/20.
• Bria Dial dropped in a career-best seven 3-pointers, second-best all-time at Chattanooga, against the Georgia Southern.
• Abbey Cornelius had a career game against Vanderbilt with a career-high 18 rebounds and matched her all-time best for blocked shots with five.
• Dena Jarrells' day against the Commodores had career-bests for points with 15 and she dished out a career-high eight assists.
• Freshman Anna Walker, assisted by Dena Jarrells, scored the game winning shot at Austin Peay.
• Amaria Pugh just missed a double-double at Troy with 16 points and nine rebounds.
• Chattanooga is 1-0 in overtime, defeating host Georgia State in the GSU Holiday Classic 73-70.
• Eboni Williams scored a career-high 30 points in her first double-double of the year with 10 rebounds. That ranks 35th all-time at UTC for scoring.
• UTC posted a winning non-conference record for the 28th time in school history.
• Bria Dial and Eboni Williams were selected to the SoCon Preseason all-conference team by the league coaches.
• UTC was picked to finish second by the league coaches and first by the SoCon media.
• Katie Burrows begins her third season at the helm. She led UTC to its 22nd Southern Conference regular season title and her first as head coach.
• UTC's schedule was altered after the delay, adding Vanderbilt to the slate. The Mocs and the Commodores have not met since the NCAA second round in 2004.
• NCAA delayed the start of the 2020-21 season due to the Coronavirus pandemic to Nov. 25 causing the Mocs to lose its first four presecheduled games.
