Mocs Travel to Macon for Season Series

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's basketball team will travel to Macon, Ga., for a pair of Southern Conference games against Mercer, one of three teams atop the SoCon standings. In a revamped SoCon schedule, the two programs will play Thursday and Saturday in Macon.

CHATTANOOGA vs. MERCER
The Mocs lead the series with Mercer 17-8 but the Bears have won six of the last seven meetings. Since Mercer joined the SoCon 2015, the two teams have split the regular season 6-6 and the Mocs are 2-1 against the Bears in the SoCon Tournament. UTC is 6-5 against Mercer in Macon.
 
THE LAST TIME …
Chattanooga and Mercer were matched up in the quarterfinal round of the 2020 Southern Conference Tournament. After each winning their home contest in the regular season, the Bears came away with a 63-55 win over the Mocs in the postseason.
 
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs stopped a two-game skid with a win over SoCon undefeated Samford to create a three-way tie at the top of the league standings. UTC is third in the league in scoring with 68 points per game and second in field goal percentage making 42.5 percent of its attempts and second for assists with 15.1 per game. The Mocs average 6.8 3-pointers per game, one off the SoCon-high, and shoot 31.3 percent from beyond the arc. Chattanooga averages 38.1 rebounds per game, 4.1 blocked shots and 6.6 steals. Eboni Williams, with five double-doubles on the year, leads UTC in scoring (14.4) and rebounding (8.9). Bria Dial, the SoCon's top 3-point shooter (33), is second on the team in scoring (12.6) and Abbey Cornelius leads the league in field goal shooting (.567) and blocked shots (28). She is third on the team in scoring (9.8) and second for rebounding (8.1).
 
ABOUT MERCER
The Bears are in a three-way tie for first in the Southern Conference standings at 4-1. Mercer leads the SoCon in six categories including scoring, blocked shots, assists and turnover margin and in the top three in seven more. The Bears are shooting 41.9 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from the arc and average 69.9 points per game. Mercer averages 37.6 rebounds per game, 4.9 blocked shots and 9.4 steals per game. Four of Mercer's scorers are ranked in the Top 9 of the SoCon with Amoria Neal-Tysor leading the league with 17.3 and Jaron Dougherty second in the rankings with 16.9 points per game. Jada Lewis is third on the team with 13.1 and Shannon Titus is fourth with 11.3 ppg. Dougherty is second in the league in rebouding with 9.2 per game and Titus averages 7.0.

• Abbey Cornelius was named SoCon Player of the Week, Jan. 19-25.
• Eboni Williams and Abbey Cornelius teamed up for a pair of double-doubles against Samford. It was the second straight double-double for Williams and her fifth this season.

• Abbey Cornelius ranks 22nd in the NCAA for blocked shots.
• Bria Dial is ranked 26th in the NCAA for 3-pointers made.
• Eboni Williams Player of the Week by the Southern Conference and College Sports Madness in back-to-back weeks - 12/22, 1/2. She was the TSWA Player of the Week Dec. 22.
• Eboni Williams has three straight double-doubles - Georgia State (30/10), N. Alabama (17/12), ETSU (18/15).
• Bria Dial has topped the 20-point mark three times this season with 20 pts against UAB and ETSU and matched her career-high with 23 against Georgia Southern.
• The Mocs were 14-of-27 from the 3-point line against Georgia Southern, fourth most by UTC in a single game. The SoCon (tied with Samford) and UTC record is 16 vs. Georgia Southern.
• Bria Dial's 23 points and Eboni Williams 20 points was the second time the two both topped 20 points in the same game. Last was UTC's triple overtime win at ETSU 2/1/20.
• Bria Dial dropped in a career-best seven 3-pointers, second-best all-time at Chattanooga, against the Georgia Southern.
• Abbey Cornelius had a career game against Vanderbilt with a career-high 18 rebounds and matched her all-time best for blocked shots with five.
• Dena Jarrells' day against the Commodores had career-bests for points with 15 and she dished out a career-high eight assists.
• Freshman Anna Walker, assisted by Dena Jarrells, scored the game winning shot at Austin Peay.
• Amaria Pugh just missed a double-double at Troy with 16 points and nine rebounds.
• Chattanooga is 1-0 in overtime, defeating host Georgia State in the GSU Holiday Classic 73-70.
• Eboni Williams scored a career-high 30 points in her first double-double of the year with 10 rebounds. That ranks 35th all-time at UTC for scoring.
• UTC posted a winning non-conference record for the 28th time in school history.
• Bria Dial and Eboni Williams were selected to the SoCon Preseason all-conference team by the league coaches.
• UTC was picked to finish second by the league coaches and first by the SoCon media.
• Katie Burrows begins her third season at the helm. She led UTC to its 22nd Southern Conference regular season title and her first as head coach.
• UTC's schedule was altered after the delay, adding Vanderbilt to the slate. The Mocs and the Commodores have not met since the NCAA second round in 2004.
• NCAA delayed the start of the 2020-21 season due to the Coronavirus pandemic to Nov. 25 causing the Mocs to lose its first four presecheduled games.
