Pink Day and Senior Day in One Soccer Weekend

The Chattanooga women's soccer team has just one weekend of play at home in October and they are making the most of it! Friday is our Breast Cancer Awareness game and Sunday is Senior Day for the Mocs.
 
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8 vs. FURMAN
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Mocs will wear their pink uniforms to help bring awareness to the devastating disease. Don your favorite pink outfit and come cheer on the Mocs.
 
The game kicks off at 6:00 p.m.
Gates open one hour prior.
Admission and parking are free.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on GoMocs.com.
 
Breast Cancer Facts
  • In 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. as well as 49,290 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
  • 63% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage (there is no sign that the cancer has spread outside of the breast), for which the 5-year survival rate is 99%.
  • This year, an estimated 43,600 women will die from breast cancer in the U.S.
  • Although rare, men get breast cancer too. In 2021, an estimated 2,650 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year in the U.S. and approximately 530 will die.
  • 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime
  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. It is estimated that in 2021, approximately 30% of all new women cancer diagnoses will be breast cancer.

The Mocs will honor its two seniors Maddie Burman and Samantha Shaw.

  • Elected Vice Captain.
  • In her fifth season.
  • Played in 52 games for Chattanooga.
  • Scored two goals and one assist on 18 shots.
  • The Mocs recorded a school record nine shutouts in her third year and had a program-record goals-against average last season.
  • Helped the Mocs to their best finish in the SoCon in program history last season.

Samantha Shaw
  • Leads Chattanooga with nine points on a team-best four goals and one assist.
  • Scored game winning goals in the season-opener against UAB and the Golden Goal in overtime at Tennessee Tech.
  • Has nine goals for her career and five assists on 49 shots for 23 points.
  • The Mocs recorded a school record nine shutouts in her second year and had a program-record goals-against average last season.
  • Helped the Mocs to their best finish in the SoCon in program history last season.
