2021-22 Chattanooga Mocs Men's Basketball
Game 14 – ETSU– Dec. 30 – McKenzie Arena
Postgame QuotesÂ
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
On the key to the defensive effort tonight.
"So many players these days, their game is defined what they do offensively. Their barometer, emotionally, is based on what they do offensively. That's not critical, it's just what it is. If you can do a great and tremendous job defensively, it effects emotions. I think that's what we were able to do to some of their main guys who are used to getting comfort shots, we made them work really hard to get looks. I thought that was the key to what we did today. The team was really into the game. The bench was really into it. Overall, it was a great performance from a good group of guys."
Â
On not allowing ETSU back in the game.
"We got it to 18 and it felt like we were about to step on the gas, and then it went back down to 13 and that's where the wheel can start to wobble. We avoided that and got it together and got stops when we needed to against a team who, when they're comfortable, can really make shots and they're extremely talented."
Â
On the play from Silvio De Sousa.
"His activity level was extremely high. That's the only thing I measure in his productivity. I'm not worried about his productivity opposed to his activity. He's too good of a player to be out there, really active, and when you look down at the stat sheet there's no productivity. I just don't see that from him very often. He's a special athlete. I hate to objectify guys because he's a lot more than that. He's a special guy. Just having him out there doing his thing without instruction is our best deal as far as he's concerned."
Silvio De Sousa, Gr.-F
On setting the tone in the SoCon opener.
"Before the game, coach mentioned something about how we have to set the tone and that's how we came out on the court today. We wanted to set that from the beginning, and we played our hearts out and gave it everything. That's how we ended."
Â
On trusting the veteranship on this team.
"When you're one of the oldest guys on the team you know the other guys trust you to get things done. It was all about setting the tone and just knowing the guys are going to be players and you have to cover in certain situations. Staying alert, being aware of where the ball is, knowing where your guy is. You just have to get yourself involved."
Â
On the time spent in Chattanooga.
"I didn't even know where Chattanooga was. It's crazy. I won't even talk about sport-wise. I just want to talk about how loved I feel here. The people are amazing. I just love it here. Everyone is equal here and that's what it is. This is the first time in my life that no one looks at me like I'm a celebrity like I was at Kansas. That's something I appreciate. Everyone looks at me like a normal person and I get to hangout and do whatever with family and not get bothered. It's just something I'm getting used to."
Avery Diggs, Gr.-F
On setting the tone.
"We knew we were going to face a great team in ETSU so we wanted to come out and make a statement on the defensive end. We're not really worried about the offense as long as we're doing our business on the defensive end."
On the play of counterpart Silvio De Sousa.
"All the time. He's a monster on the boards. If you don't put a body on him, he's going to come get that rebound. He's going right back up and you have to foul him hard, but he's still going to finish it. He has a quick first step and is super athletic. He pushes me to get better."
