Postgame Quotes
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Overall thoughts following the 85-64 win over Lipscomb.
"What an interesting game it was. I probably get a lot of credit with the guys when I say stuff like this, but I don't want to be right. I told them. In the second half, with a 20 point lead at half, it's hard because you're going to naturally play a little conservative offensively. It can set you up for a really good half if you're mature and handle the right things, or it can be a really bad half because momentum gets going and one thing leads to another and all of a sudden you're in a dog fight. It was more the latter than the former. But the guys did a great job of composing themselves and getting themselves back together. They made some big plays to stop the bleeding."
On winning on the road.
"All road wins are good. It's a really good road team against a group that was hungry. I do want to say that, man, Lennie Acuff, what a solid guy that appears to be. They stuck to their stuff and you knew they were not going to give up on what they were doing. They made a couple plays and next thing you know it's a single-digit game. You have to give them credit for that. All said and done, the guy's did enough to win."
On surviving Lipscomb's second-half run.
"It's not easy, on the road in particular. But just in a college basketball game. Anything can happen and we saw that already. It can be your best friend or your worst enemy and it won't pick or choose when to strike. I thought it was a good effort to just calm the seas back down, and it happened in a variety of ways. Between 19 offensive rebounds and the nine steals, that's 28 extra chances on offense."
On the support from the Mocs fans in attendance.
"We had a great crowd. And it matters. And it's crazy how much it matters. Just to have a couple people is an important deal. You need encouragement. We had a great crowd here tonight and can't wait to build on their support."
David Jean-Baptiste, Gr.-G
On KC Hankton's big three to quiet the Lipscomb run.
"We just keep our fans into the whole game, on the edge of their seats [laughing]. That was a big time shot. Whatever run they had, that was a huge shot from KC [Hankton]. It allowed us to calm down, stop them, and get back to our lead."
On knocking down a career-high seven threes.
"Big time passes from my teammates and it was just the confidence my teammates and coaches had in me. Once I hit the last one, the ball kept finding me and they were a lot of good opportunities. They just started to fall."
On the team's defensive performance.
"Everyone was aggressive on the defensive end. That's what we preached about in practice, too. We wanted to play solid defensively and take advantage of our opportunities."
On staying locked in on attention to details.
"You definitely have to, especially on the road. That's something about road games, they're so much more valuable. You go against so many things. Having a mature team like we have is such a huge benefit."
