GAME NOTES | TUESDAY PRESSER | GAME WEEK PRIMER | STATS

CHATTANOOGA---The 11th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs eyes are fully ahead on the task at hand. The Mocs head back to the Palmetto State going to Charleston, S.C., to square off with The Citadel Bulldogs on Saturday.

It's another pivotal Southern Conference matchup with the Mocs one game out of first trailing No. 10 Samford (5-0) which hosts VMI today. No. 13 Furman (5-1) and No. 12 Mercer (5-1) have the weekend off.

It's another week of strength against strength. The Bulldogs average 201.1 yards per game running the football. The Mocs lead the SoCon in stopping the run at 98.4 ypg. Both squads are run-heavy schemes with an eye on controlling the ball and the clock.

Chattanooga is solid keeping it for more than 31 minutes a contest (31:05). The Citadel are the nation's leaders nearly 37 minutes (36:53). When we say leading the country, it's all NCAA levels – DI (FBS & FCS), DII and DIII.

This has been a nail-biting matchup for some time. While the Mocs have won five of their last six visits to Johnson Hagood Stadium, the last two wins – 29-28 in 2018 and 25-24 in spring 2021 – came on 2-point conversions in overtime.

Saturday's broadcast is on ESPN+. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.

QUOTABLE
Tight End Jay Gibson on the need to make the most of opportunities against The Citadel:
"We need to make sure we make plays count. Normally in a game, you get around 70-75 plays, but we'll probably only get around 50-55 this weekend with how Citadel controls the ball, and how slow they play. Just making the most of every opportunity and not having any wasted possessions is gonna be crucial."

Linebacker Kam Jones on the challenge posed by The Citadel's offensive attack:
"I think the biggest thing is eye discipline. Just make sure you put your eyes in the right place, take the right steps and doing that every single down. That's the hardest thing. Just being consistent with your eyes because that offense does a good job at moving fast and put a lot of things in your reads, making it cloudy. As a unit, we have to be disciplined with our eyes and reads, and make sure you do that every single down."
